Went over to a friends this weekend past and she had a steamer to steam
veggies and I didn't take a close look at what it's brand etc was - Any
of you use a veggie steamer (electric) and if so do you love it and what
brand? Was it expensive and wheres the best place to get one?

Black and Decker with a 75 minute timer, 19.95 USD at either Target or
Walmart. Has a rice cooker, veggie steamer, and a "scenter" to add spice/
flavor without adding it to the food. Don't use the latter item much.

I love my Black and Decker steamer! The rice steaming is excellent, so
is the veggie steaming and the flavor scenter is very nice used with
fresh herbs. It does work. You won't need a separate rice cooker with
this appliance, the steamed rice it does (I usually cook brown/wild
rice) is excellent.

But only one side if you're not an ambidextrous masher.

Ditto that - I was about to post the same one. It also has two bins so you
can put something on the bottom that might take longer then add the top bowl
for items that take less time. I haven't had much luck with the rice
steamer, but I
do use the "scenter" (for lack of a better word) and it's good.

Have you tried steaming fish in yours? Mine has directions for preparing
fish this way but I've never tried it.

Beverly

We steam shrimp in ours. It's wonderful.

You can also get a bamboo steamer that fits nicely over your soup pots. I
steam my veggies to keep them nice and crisp. I don't like over cooked
veggies.
