BTW, how tall are you? My goal weight currently is 112 pounds and I

I
have been at 115.5 pounds for one week. I am guessing if I continue

to
eat 1120 calories a day I might reach my goal weight by December or
January.

I'm only 4'11"

What is your goal weight?

112 pounds as I mentioned above.

Here is my rule for determining one's ideal weight (women only).

If you are 5' tall your ideal weight is 100 pounds. Add 5 pounds for
every inch you are above 5' and that is your ideal weight. In my
example, as I am 5' 2" tall, my ideal weight is 110 pounds. I am
currently 115 pounds, which means I am 5 pounds over my ideal weight.
If I were to weigh 110 pounds I would then be a little below the
middle of the BMI "normal weight" range on the BMI scale for my
height:

Complete and utter bull ****. I am 5'2" and at 20% bodyfat, I'll weigh
around 125. 20% bodyfat is very healthy and I can't imagine weighing

less.

No it isn't complete and utter bull**** Oregonchick. It is my
experience, and it works for me, so perhaps I am living in a fantasy
world?

If you want to be at 125 pounds at 5' 2", so be it, what the hell does
that have to do with what I posted above?

Why is it if people have different theories on weight loss that don't
gel with the accepted theory, it is always called "utter bull****?"

I think the key word is "ideal". Like most ideals, it isn't practical for
everyone.

I don't get what's going on here. Jenny weighs 119 and wants to lose
how much? Is she 3 feet tall? Doesn't anyone worry about her low
weight goals?

I don't think anything she does (or says she does) is very sensible, but
I also don't think she really cares about what's really going on with
her body. And that's not anything that anyone here can help her with.
People have tried talking sense into her several times, but every time
she comes back she's in the exact same place she was when she left.

Were you around when "she who must not be named" was causing tremoil on the
group several years ago? I know Dally and jmk were and maybe Carol Braun,
too. (Her name was something like False Crocus but since she used to
search for mentions of her name and swoop down like a troll from hell so
that's why we started referring to her as above.) She used to "hang out" at
alt.zen, too. She once masqueraded as a man calling herself "Bob". Bitched
that we were so sweet and helpful to "Bob" but were real ugly to her telling
her that if she didn't stop the drug use and excessive drinking that she was
beyond help. I beginning to wonder about Jenny being another of this psycho
woman's masquerades. I don't really care whatever happened to her (True
Bull****flower) but I hope this isn't one of her deceptions.

I don't think I know who you're talking about, but nothing on usenet
really surprises me any more. People get up to all kinds of crazy stuff
for all kinds of crazy reasons. I don't know what Jenny's trip is,
whether she's for real and just can't comprehend anything that's going
on around her or whether she's a troll who pretends to be stupid because
it's an effective way of annoying people. Either way, I don't have a
lot of patience for her.

Definitely. The OP's post is just simplistic -- doesn't take into
account anything about a person's build or muscle mass.

Yes it is overly simplistic and it WORKS.

Define "WORKS" you moron. It doesn't WORK for EVERYONE so stating something
like IT WORKED FOR ME might be more acceptable. There is no one size fits
all, and there is more to a healthy body than a number on a scale - how
about your bodyfat percentage? What is yours?

My dear please take a chill pill...you are beginning to overheat.

What part of "my rule" and "ideal" weight do you not understand? And I
did state in my first reply that it worked for me, and it might work
for Jenny.

Calm yourself down and take a deep breath.

I will bow down to your incredible Usenet wisdom on all to do with
dieting and bodyfat percentages.

There...feel better now?

How about if I just say it's wrong? My ideal weight is nowhere near 125 at
5'5". At 135 I was told I was too thin, and my skeletal appearance and
ammenorhea backed that up. Your statement above "If you are are 5' tall
your ideal weight is 100 lbs..." is not saying that holds for just you;
you're telling others what is right for them. It's not just that you have a
different theory but you have decided that it's right for others too.
That's the easiest way to get people to point out how wrong you really are -
telling them what they should be or do.

I agree, but you mentioned something that comes up a lot, namely, that
of dieting resulting in muscle loss. I agree most people do not want to
lose muscle, but on the other hand, I'm fairly certain there is almost
always at least some muscle lost if the weight loss is fairly rapid no
matter how much protein you ingest. I also am not convinced that this
is necessarily a bad thing. Nobody has shown me that losing a little
muscle along with the fat is unhealthy.

In changing your body composition, there probably will always be some
'muscle' loss - remember tho that refers to your 'lean' weight, which
is made up of not only muscle but water, blood, skin, etc - everything
that is not bodyfat. If you have alot of weight to lose you need to
lose some lean weight in order to 'rebalance' or reshape yourself.
For example, you may have a 30lb scale weight loss, with 12lbs of that
lean weight, while 18lbs was true fatloss. This is why knowing your
bodyfat percentage can be an advantage to make sure the lean loss is
always smaller than the bodyfat loss.
A bit of math at:
http://www.geocities.com/jgrrl2/math.html

Some people such as body builders which have very low
fat but are extremely muscular would look better (to me) if they lost
some of that muscle.

To each their own, but I tend to agree that moderation is key to
everything in life :-)

Gave her a similar link a few months ago which she was thrilled with for
