Which is better depends on which you can stick with. I can tell you that you don't need to eat Atkins (or any other low carb) products to follow a low carb way of eating regardless of what plan you choose. -- Jeri 265/189/120 Atkins since 11/5/01 "Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right." |

( and BTW you really don't need any of their products to follow the Atkins diet). I bought Protein Power recently just to get another view on the subject of the low carb approach; very interesting book, worth reading, not that different in principle to the Atkins approach. Either one will work well provided you can stick to it! |

You don't need Atkins products at all to follow Atkins, or any low carb plan
for that matter. In a nutshell, you'll get more carbs allowed right off the bat with PP, at least 10 more than Atkins Induction. Basically, they're similar, but I think the Eades, authors of PP, invented the idea of deducting fiber to come up with "net carbs" (I could be wrong about this.) If you like to cook, I'd strongly recommend the PP cookbook, "Low Carb Comfort Food" over the original PP diet book, which has a lot of science. If you decide to do Atkins instead, the Atkins diet book will help tremendously, especially if you're not familiar with the whole concept. And if you decide on PP, I'd still recommend getting the Atkins book and simply adding a few extra carbs to the Induction plan (30 instead of 20 carbs) and you'll end up with the more liberal PP. Hope this wasn't too confusing! |

one of the great things about atkins is that you aren't required to
buy any "products" other than the book in order to successfully follow it. i started 5 years ago just before atkins got big, and the only supplemental products available were the advantage bars. i'd buy them just as a snack, but otherwise i was, and still do, eat REAL food. this diet isn't about shakes and bars and supplements and mixes, it's about helping your body chemistry burn the fat it already has by eating foods that don't contain the carbs that helped build the fat in the first place. jen red meat isn't bad for you... fuzzy blue-green meat is bad for you "Live2Ride" wrote in message .. . The Protein Power book gives a much better explanation of why how and why
low carb dieting works than does Atkins. It also gives you the tools to select from a wide selection of foods to make your own food plan. It's suggestions for how to eat in restaurants are very helpful too. I think that the original Protein Power book (the little paperback) is the best of the introductory low carb books. I used that plan for my first year of low carbing. The only caveat I'd add is that you can overdo it with protein. Calculate what your body needs but if you start to stall, start cutting back to what you need because excess protein will turn into glucose in your body (slowly) and raise insulin levels. -- Jenny Cut the carbs to respond to my new email address!
