Thanks for the replies Ernie and Penelope.

Penelope,

I've been on a perpetual low-calorie, low-fat diet for years now.
Before I started Atkins, I used to have just one meal a day - dinner -
and my calorie intake has been about 1000-1200 calories for atleast a
few months now (ofcourse excluding weekend/occasional binges, because
I was on a self-devised, unplanned diet "plan").

I've tried to maintain that calorie range because I thought my body is
used to it. I have realized now, that eating just one meal a day
causes the body to slow down metabolism and store more fat instead and
am eating 3 regular meals.

Regarding my water intake, I usually drink atleast 3-4 1.8 FLOZ (1L,
1QT) bottles of water, if not more, but I'll try to increase it
further.

Regarding my exercise habits - I usually work out thrice a week -
about 30 mins on the treadmill at 5-6mph - it usually works out to
about 3 miles. This is followed by stretches, benddown exercises,
pushups and a few weights/dumbbells for 20-30 mins. My treadmill reads
about 300 calories at the end of the jog with my weight.

Ernie,

Yeah, I've realized measuring weight/Ketostix 5 times a day leads to
frustration
more than anything else. I'll cut down gradually, I'm kinda addicted
right now

Hi Folks,

However, I don't think my body's having trouble getting into Ketosis.
My Ketostix have been registering at "Moderate" to "High" at different
times during the day.

This usually means you aren't drinking anywhere NEAR enough water, which can
cause stalls in and of itself. Ketostix are pretty much useless and
shouldn't be relied upon, except MAYBE your first morning pee.

If you're a man, eating 1500 calories could be enough to have shocked your
body into thinking there's a famine. Some will likely disagree with me, but
I've seen it enough to believe. Maybe you could shoot for about 1800-2000
and see how that works out?

If you're only getting 15-17g of carbs daily, you are probably not eating
enough veggies. Also a problem :P

Tell us about your exercise habits?

Peace,
Pen

Hi Folks,

Today is my 14th day on Induction, and I'm only 5lbs down from 215lbs
on 07/26 to 210lbs on 08/09. I've been stalled at 210lbs for about 4-5
days now, wondering what I could be doing wrong. Essentially, I lost
5lbs in just about a week since starting Induction.

You need to be told this.... YOU"RE DOIN" GREAT! Don't have instant
expectations. As my skinny wife says, "how long did it take you to get so
fat?" The other thing is that your body is going through changes from fat
to muscle. Things are redistributing. Some weeks you lose nothing then all
of a sudden, a few lbs dissappear. This is a way of life now, not a diet.
Throw the scale out and go my your clothes fit. Hang in there.

Wow, I had to read that multiple times to get it all in. Thanks for
the replies folks. I'm really REALLY going to stop weighing myself 5
times a day now. Thanks for typing that in Lurker, that was one heck
of an insightful post, really appreciate it.

Penelope Ernie and BevAnn, since I post through Google Groups, my
replies take 8-10 hours to appear/propogate. I clarified the matter of
calorie intake in an earlier post which hasn't yet showed up (but
ofcourse will before this one, that's what I get for typing before I
think).

FOB, I'm just 5'5", so my ideal weight is around 140'ish (male),
always been heavy, my mom tells me I was born overweight, though I
didn't look it - this makes me think I'm heavy boned too. So
compensating for the extra bone weight, I'm hoping to be around 150lbs
by the end of it all.

Revek, I'm glad to say I've indeed lost inchese - my older clothes fit
easier and I just feel lighter on my feet (this probably is also due
to the "burst" of Induction energy).

Again, I appreciate all the advice and encouragement, folks.

First and foremost, kill your scale. O.K. maybe not kill it, but quit
relying on it. Is it really weight that you want to lose, or fat? If it
is just weight then have an arm or leg amputated and be done with it.
The scale will register significantly less the next day. All meant in
humor of course, but it would help with the online BMI thingys. LOL

If I look at the a

href="http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-475820.html"What's
your degree of metabolic resistance?/a page on the Atkins website,
it puts me in the "High Metabolic Resistance" category. This state is
further described on the same page as: "As you've undoubtedly guessed,
the degree of resistance to weight loss that your body shows
corresponds to your degree of difficulty in getting well into
lipolysis. By definition, resistance to weight loss is resistance to
lipolysis."

However, I don't think my body's having trouble getting into Ketosis.
My Ketostix have been registering at "Moderate" to "High" at different
times during the day. Usually, I am "High" soon after exercise, and I
register "Moderate" even on days when I don't do any significant
physical activity (I've been working out thrice a week). This is
inspite of drinking *lots* of water - about 3-5 liters a day.

I haven't cheated at all during the 2 weeks - my average Calorie
intake has been consistent at an average of about 1500 Calories, about
65% of which is Fat (I have been logging everything I eat accurately).
My carb intake has hovered around 15-17gms daily without any
significant spikes or depressions over the two weeks.

I am reluctant to take drastic measures like doing the Fat Fast as
Atkins suggests for people with a High Metabolic resistance, since my
body is certainly in Ketosis, and hasn't been out of it every since
my 4th day on Induction (which is when I bought a pack of Ketostix).

Any suggestions/advice will be welcome.

Thanks.
