Just wanted to share my first century (100 mile) bicycle ride. I sure

feel
good that I finally did the century ride. It was a very cool nice

morning
today in the Pittsburgh area. I started at 7:00am and the fog didn't

lift
until about 9:00 or so. The ride was quite hilly and I must say my legs

are
quite tired, but I feel great. It was nice to finish and still have

more in
my tank at the end. I may push a bit harder now that I did the 100

once.
It took me 7 hours with two snack breaks and a lunch break. I felt that

was
pretty good considering I was being pretty conservative and the hills.

Had to share it with someone. My journey all started with low carb and

no
exercise, and when I got thinner I added some light jogging and so on.

My
first goal was to jog a mile and so on. Now I am riding 100 miles on my
bike. What is next? Iron man? Maybe in the future!

Enjoy,
Curt

Curt,

Congrats on such a great accomplishment. It feels amazing when you
hit that century mark, doesn't it? You should be extremely proud of
yourself. In less than 5 weeks, I take part in my 11th MS 150 City to
Shore Bike Ride here in New Jersey. It's an amazing experience with
over 5,000 cyclists and a heck of a lot of incredible volunteers that
make it possible to rais millions for those suffering from multiple
sclerosis.

Congrats again on your accomplishments.

Gregg

I did an MS 150 earlier this year. It was from Pittsburgh to Lake Erie. It
was a blast and tons of people. I hope to do it again next year.

Thanks for the kind words,
Curt

Well 20 miles a day is great. They say you can ride 3 times that with not
much problem, so a 60 should be no problem for you right now. Of course
your butt is another story. Good bike shorts are a help in such rides IMHO.

great job.
I hope to get some longer rides in. health problems caused me to not have
enough energy. I am working that out but now I have to worry about my

butt. not
sure if I can find a saddle that will work for such long rides.
but I do get 20 miles a day in commuting 5 days a week.

Congratulations, Curt! I'm up to 67 miles on my bike ride, and I hope to
do the most I've ever ridden this weekend. Then, I plan on completing my
first ever century in September. I did 67 miles in five hours, so I'm
hoping to complete the century in about 7 hours.

I usually do a metric century in about 4 hours. I think it just makes a
difference in my mind. I wanted to make sure I finish. I saw a couple of
groups drafting off each other and they can sure go fast, but I wanted to do
this one with no drafting just for my own mind.

You are doing great Bob. You no doubt will have fun doing your first
century as I did.

WowowowowoW! Thanks for sharing, 100 miles a day is very inspiring. Now

I
might just lug my rusty bike to get it fixed by the bike guy down the

road...

oh well, may be later, after my holiday that's starting tomorrow. :-)

The only reason that I think I can make 7 hours is because of drafting.
If I can draft people, then I go faster. The bummer is that I'm still too
heavy -- I rode this weekend and two people were in front of me. On flat
ground or downhills, I kept up or lowered the distance. But when the road
shot uphill, they left me behind. I'm also hoping that the century isn't
as hilly as where I normally ride (not that I mind hills, in fact I think
they're quite challenging; however, fewer hills means that I go faster).

Congrats on your century! That's a milestone not many have achieved. I'm
thinking of wearing a "I'm on low carb" T-shirt so that I can see all the
shocked faces as I make it the entire way.

once I get over my health problems distance wont' be a big issue. I have been
doing the 20 miles for over a year now. I average 100 miles a week.
my biggest problem is I need a nice firm saddle for the sit bones but I need a
really soft nose. this is where I have the problems. I am trying a triathlon
seat right now. it has a soft gel nose. but it may have too much curve in it. a
seat that is flat across the top seems best for me but those are hard to find.
got good shorts and a pair of the best shorts. but I found too much padding is
as bad as not enough for me.
