I'm heading to Vegas on Sunday for a conference--anything I shouldn't
miss seeing?

Anything I should avoid seeing?

See everything, go everywhere, have fun. What happens in Vegas, stays
in Vegas. I love it out there. I'm from Jersey, and I have flown out
a few times in the past two years. LOVE IT!! When I am not there I am
in Atlantic City. Wait....I think I am too late with this comment.
You flew out Sunday. HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT TIME. Wish I were
there. My future son in law is going this weekend for his bachelor
party. He better be good. ;-)

Nope not too late--leaving on Mother's day...

Thanks for the info. My BIL lives out there, so we'll meet up during the
week. I'm sure he'll show me a thing or two...oh wait. That didn't sound
right at all!

My last trip to Vegas I spent most of my time at the Calloway Golf Center
and Death Valley. Both were great. As far as gambling goes, I like to play
War at the Bellagio but that's about it. I don't know what you might avoid
except the Denny's on the north end of the strip near the Riviera - trust me
on that one!

The conference and our reservations are at Mandalay Bay--southern-most
end, I believe. My traveling companions and I figured we'd use the
monorail to get around to see the strip, and we have invites to a vendor
party at Planet Hollywood. I'm pretty excited about going--My mother
went in January (to get hitched) and said it was wonderful.

The Calloway Golf Center is just on the other side of the airport from
Mandalay Bay. The monorail, BTW, is off the strip - kind of weird. I just
walked it mostly.

I've been to Vegas a couple of times. Definitely go up the Eiffel Tower
at the Parisian hotel. Take the gondola ride at The Venetian. Liberace's
museum is rather interesting if you're into museums.

Walk through Cesear's Palace to see the moving statues. Very cool!

Luxor hotel is fun for the Egyptian stuff. Imperial Palace has a classic
car museum that is interesting, again if you're into that.

Some info about Mandalay Bay where I saw you're staying in another post:

Also, some basic tips on Vegas: http://tinyurl.com/bha3u

Last, but not least: bring comfortable walking shoes. You will walk a
lot in Vegas. If you want to get around on the strip for cheap and don't
feel like walking, take the bus. I learned this one a few years back.
The local bus system goes up and down the strip for CHEAP! Ask for a
transfer when you get on. You can use that to go back the other way or
get on another bus going somewhere else and it's super cheap.

Vegas has a trolley system that goes up and down the strip, but it's
much more expensive. If you want the experience of riding it, ride it
once, but take the bus after that.

Have a great time!

Speaking of walking up and down the strip...and the trolley...I wish I
knew how to post a picture of me at 2:00 a.m. after walking all the way
down the strip then getting stuck on the trolley going the wrong way.
We hopped on to go about three casinos down, because we were exhausted
and ended up going the wrong way. I don't think I got back to my hotel
NEW YORK NEW YORK....until 3:00 a.m. The picture of me sitting on
the stoop by the trolley stand speaks much of the adventure. I still
laugh about it. Vegas is so much fun. My kids are taking me to
Atlantic City this weekend for Mothers Day. Everything I get is Comp
so they are giving me a great present. DUH!!! It won't cost them a
cent. They better give me some gambling money. Have a fabulous time
in Vegas.

I hear great recommendations about Cirque du Soleil, which I gather
has several instantiations doing different shows at different hotels.
We have tickets for a show called Ka at the MGM Grand, which is where
we're staying next month.
