Latest health info, recipes, & diet tips:
http://cardiologist-wife.com/Cardiol...Diet/Home.html For example, Anytime BrownieTM recipe makes 9 big servings, 167 calories & 18.5 g. protein each. Total Carbs 15 grams each, less than a slice of whole wheat bread. (Compa a hamburger has just 12 grams of protein; 4 oz nonfat yogurt has 10 grams protein; 8 oz of skim milk has 8 grams, & 1 egg white just 5 grams.) Deeelicious too! Here's the brownie: http://cardiologist-wife.com/Cardiol..._calories.html Have fun, good health to you! |

How tiny do you make your burgers?

That sounds like oh, about the size of a McDonald's hamburger. Speaking of which, I googled up some data which pegs the McD's burger at 13 grams of protein. So the answer is: that's how tiny. |

You are completely wacko. That's two ounces. I don't know about McDonalds
burgers I haven't eaten one in years, but a low carber would eat at least twice that much but without the bun. [ Top-posting corrected, once again ] You are completely wacko. You're welcome. That's two ounces. Thanks for the metric conversion lesson. I don't know about McDonalds burgers I haven't eaten one in years Yes, but we have search engines by which you can discover facts without having to eat anything. I haven't eaten one in years also, but I remember they are quite small, and it struck me that it might be about two ounces of meat. I googled up the information about the 13 grams of protein: very close to the 12 gram figure. This information could be wrong. That doesn't make me ``wacko''. I see now that McDonald's itself provides a page which lists the protein content as 12 grams. http://nutrition.mcdonalds.com/bagam...ion_facts.html The /total/ mass of the burger is around 100 g, or 3.5 oz. But no, I really am a wacko. I hijacked their DNS, and mcdonalds.com points to fake site that I created! Muhahahaha! *Sigh* but a low carber would eat at least twice that much but without the bun. That's wonderfully informational, but I don't see how your personal preferences have anything to do with answering the question of how tiny is a burger that contains 12 grams of protein, or how speculating about that in a reasonable way makes anyone wacko. You seem to be behaving as if I prescribed to you that you should eat burgers no larger than this, or something. |

You seem to be behaving as if I prescribed to you that you should eat burgers no larger than this, or something. I'd say that FOB behaves as someone who knows what LC is and how people living LC typically eat. They don't look to McDonalds as a source for food information or examples of what people eat on LC. A 1/4 lb burger starts out with 1/4 lb of raw beef, which is a quite modest portion after cooking. According to the USDA, 1/4lb of 80% lean ground beef contains 21g of protein. A person eating LC would likely eat at least that or a larger burger, 8 ozs being reasonable, which would be 42g of protein. Hence, FOB's comment that 12g of protein for a burger seems small in the context of LC is entirely reasonable. |
