If someone said, "Wow, Staci...you've lost weight! How'd you do it?" And I
said, "Well, I don't eat sugar or fast food, I really don't eat bread,
potatoes or rice, I eat more veggies and drink a lot of water. I'm also
exercising 5 days a week including some weight training."

They would say - "Good for you!"

If I said I'm low-carbing by following Atkins, they say "OMG - You're gonna
die! You had better stop before your kidneys fall out and your heart
explodes!" (Or something along these lines.)

I stopped explaining things a long time ago. I find my best answer is,
"It's the No Beer, No Krispy Kremes, Get Off The Couch diet." That gets a
laugh and changes the subject.

The only people I'll go into detail with are those that come up and say,
"Wow, you've lost weight. Are you doing low-carb?"

Atkins since 1/1/02 (yeah, it was a New Year's Resolution)
Besetting sins: good beer, German bread, and Krispy Kremes

I know how you feel .... its gotten to the point I now state - something like
" well, I just dont like" this or that-
--happens frequently in restaurants too - Ill order
an omelet without toast & potatoes and the waitperson
will say " Atkins?" - rather than hear them rant against
it I just say, " I dont eat toast or potatoes" - which is the truth - even
with desserts - same thing when a group of friends orders some gooey mess - I
just say I dont eat it -
Frankly. I would love to paint all over myself that I do
& love LC - but its not worth dealing with the stupid
people who know nothing about the program -

lol. A doctor will tell you to stay away from sugar and processed white
flower, but in the same breath tell you to eat lots of pasta and breads.

How did the terms "Atkins" and "low-carb" get such a bad rap? Why on

earth
are even doctors giving it such a bad name? How, when the basis for
low-carbing is really a sensible thing? Do they think we sit around and

eat
heaping plates of butter?

Oh-oh. Here we go again! Everything is the fault of "the liberal Senators".
Give me a break! Stop using the word "liberal" as a favorite whipping boy.

Eventually you will learn to expect as little openmindedness in the area
of diet as in the areas of religion and politics.

Evidently so, since we all "know" it is the "liberals" who are behind
everything, eh?

Pat, I'm a liberal, despite assholes like yourself.

Liberals make a lot of mistakes BECAUSE they try to change things.

The Senators involved were trying to CHANGE ANERICA by changing their
way of eating.... according to the unproven theories of the time.

Well, some doctors may finally be getting the message. The last time I
was at the doctor, the same doctor who's been advising me for years
just to "cut out the fat" from my diet, told me to cut back on
starches like potatoes, rice, etc. He said, "You don't need them."

I was surprised.

But, although I do plan to tell him that I did cut out at least the
refined starches and potatoes, I don't know if I'll tell him I started
SB.

He's always telling me that dieting doesn't work in the long run and
that I should just cut daily caloric intake by small amounts, which
over the long term would cause me to lose weight.

But heck, that long term loss would take me years and years, and I'm
really, really, really tired of being this heavy.

Maybe if my blood pressure continues looking good and my blood work
shows an improvement at my next checkup, I'll fess up to using SB.
