Somethings are getting better, like browsing w/ Google automagically
collapses quoted text, but it's a click away.

I still like liberal use of the delete key for quoted text.

I remember around '96 or so thinking that it was annoying how everyone was
topposting email, because I had done more communication via Usenet than
email at that point.

I alternate depending on whether it's a on-going conversation or just a
one-time reply to a post. I often just post a 'congrats' at the top of a
longer post. I'm with you on scrolling through a lenghty post just to see a
short reply at the bottom.

Personally, I am not bothered by either method. But I bottom post usually
because that's what most people prefer...

You need to bottom post if you're doing a point by point rebuttal.
If you're tempted to top-post, you should probably consider not quoting
ANYTHING, just say what's on your mind. This ain't email; we have threads
for messages, someone who needs the previous context can get it one way
or
the other.

I will bottom post when there's a conversation going. because it's easier
that way. or if I'm doing a point by point discussion, then I post in the
previous poster's message.

If there isn't a continuous conversation then it doesn't matter. I'm just
tired of people telling others what to do.. top post, bottom post, trim
everything but the last poster, leave the whole conversation, trim
everything, don't trim everything because then we don't know what you're
answering to...

This is a fairly simple communication medium... if top posting is enough
to throw you off, maybe you need some help somewhere..

Some people here have been at it forever, they know "nettiquette" by heart
and can be pedantic bore about it. Some people here are brand new, have no
clues about it, and get shamed into not ever posting again by the oldie's
"demands". Some people (like me) have a general idea of nettiquette, will
try to follow it, forget sometimes, and all around think what is said is
more important than how it's said.

It's like spelling... going around correcting people's spelling is about
the rudest thing.. even more if you keep in mind that not everybody in the
world is english speaking (OH MY GOD? REALLY?)

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

In my opinion, if you can't see any non-quoted stuff right off, then
there's no point in trying to find it. Most likely it's just "me, too"
at the bottom or something...

The best convention is to intersperse or bottom-post, quoting just
enough to provide context for one's own writings. It's rarely necessary
to quote more than one or two lines (per comment, if interspersing a
point-for-point rebuttal).

The sig file belongs at the bottom. It should not hinder reader
experience at all.

Yeah, boy, how ****ing crazy must I be to prefer written conversations
that are tidy and logical? I mean, what kind of bitch-ass fruitcake
likes things to *make sense*?

(Do I really need to indicate the eyeroll, or can you figure that part
out for yourself?)

Your formatting isn't exactly perfect either, Ace. Relax.
