A weekend maybe, but not a whole week. Your muscles will weaken if you
take that much time off and it's going to be very hard to get started up again. Actually, if you're someone who routinely strength trains with weights sometimes your body could use a week to rest and allow your muscles to repair and recover. Every few weeks I will take a week off and when I do return to the gym I feel refreshed and relaxed. (sometimes I just need a mental break as well from lifting weights) One week off is not really a significant enough amount of time to have an adverse effect on any gains you have made in the gym. Really my true answer to your question would be to see how your own body feels. If after a few days you feel sluggish or weak then by all means get back into the gym. A full week may not be what YOUR body needs. There is no steadfast answer here, it really all depends on your own personal needs and fitness levels. Play around with how much time you take off from the gym and see how you feel. Kris |

Hi Christina,
I find that I'm best at maintaining the exercise when I don't stop for a while. I get used to being a couch potato REALLY easily. I dropped my aerobics down to 30 minutes X 3 days for this week, and my
weightlifting to an easier program, because I have a sort of a cold, and darn if I did not hit a new low on my scale today. Bizarre "Paper" wrote in message ... The body is very good at adapting and if you continually do the same thing all the time it will cease to be helpful. You need to either increase speed, distance, weight, reps, or time.
