Hi everyone,

Thanksgiving is just a couple of days away. How are you planning to treat
the day? Do you have special recipes that you are using, or are you
planning to eat less of normal fare. (or spurge?) Are you nervous about
it? Relaxed? Stressed?

I made my menu today, and did a bit of both..some lighter recipes...some of
my normal things...and left out some things altogether. I really think my
mind set is very different with WW this time. I'm not stressed about the
extra food...I'm going to just see how I feel on the day and eat what seems
right as well as making sure to take a very long walk in the morning.

I've seen so many people on the WW message boards totally consumed with how
they are going to get through the day without blowing the diet. It really
made me ponder the whole holiday/food/entertaining issue and how food plays
such a big part in it.

Thoughts?

Last year I made mostly low point side dishes, fat free gravy etc. It was
fine. Nobody even noticed. This year I am making everything "normal"
eating small portions of everything I want, having a 3 point breakfast that
day, and 0 point soup in the evening, and just enjoying the day.

I hope.

no stress in the food department, I know I can eat whatever I want and
therefore I can eat it on turkey or wait for another day. I am going to
family so I won't be cooking and that makes it tricky but there is always
plain turkey and usually salad as well, I just refuse to let one day freak
me out as this day will occur every year for the rest of my life, there is
always time to eat stuff and there always time to continue losing, good luck
to everybody, Lee for

Hi Lesanne,

That sounds good and sort of what I'm doing, except I'm trying out a few new
low point side dishes. I like the idea of trying to make the day as much
like a "normal weight" person would do it. So trying to eat lighter in the
day, exercising a little more and splurging a little makes sense to me. My
weigh in day is Thursday, so I have the whole lot of Flex points if I want
them, but something tells me I probably won't. The whole thing has really
clicked for me this time.

Hi Lee,

One thing that seems to make a difference to me is the fact that WW isn't a
diet. I haven't denied myself anything other than overindulgence, and large
portions. Once I got into that mindset...knowing I could eat pretty much
anything I wanted as long as I planned, the rest has sort of fallen into
place for me.

When I read the WW message boards, I can see who might be a good maintainer
and who will probably lapse...those who might regain seem to think of it as
a "diet." I haven't thought that way at all, and it's a great feeling to
lose weight thinking that way.

We have other plans on Thursday, but turkeys are so cheap, I bought
one and roasted it Sunday and we had some of the fixin's but not what
we usually have. My plan was not to make the full spread, just treat
it like a big chicken - I roast those all the time, no big deal. Then
we invited some relatives, and it was a real dinner after all. This
is funny, because we've done a real feast every year, with 25 guests,
three turkeys, etc., until this year.

We did somewhere in the middle of all the options you listed. We had
sugarfree pumpkin custards with cool whip. We did make the
traditional giblet stuffing (but not the cornbread stuffing with
hardboiled eggs and sausage), and mashed potatoes, peas, cranberry
sauce, gravy... We didn't make the pearl onions in gruyere sauce, and
we just roasted the butternut squash plain (my wife grew up with it
mashed with lots of butter and salt). No apple pie, no homemade
bread.

On my second glass of wine, I said, "aw to heck with it," and decided
I was just going to skip logging my points at all. It's only one day,
after all. I did go back for seconds.

Later on, I decided I ought to go ahead and log my points after all.
It took me a while to put it all in, guessing at how much of each
thing I ate.

I'll tell you, the WW web site is starting to tick me off! I just
went to look, and it says I had 13 points left that day! I know I put
about 35 points in for dinner alone. It was a real hit to the flex
points. Right now, it only shows 10.5 points for the turkey. ARGGGH!
I want to find their webmaster and punch him in the nose. The real
aggravation is that it threw out my activity points, and I had earned
5 of them that day!

I have no idea where I stand for the week now. Okay, I have nothing
good left to say, so I'll just stop here.

Stan

this is a good mindset to have. I truly believe that it is one of the keys
to long term success. The best example is when you are trying a new reduced
type food. If you say to yourself, I can eat this while I lose you should
not even bother to use the product. If you say this tastes fine I can use
this from now on then good for you. Good topic this one, Lee

Easier, I can follow what is in the recipe book. Besides, I am practicing
maintenance, and I figure it is time that I exposed myself to a "holiday"
sort of meal, of ordinary foods, to see what that does.
I have been able to pretty well control my food since I am the cook , and
not working a "regular" job right now. Besides, I can tell the difference.
Most people are not "foodies". Maybe they lied. Who knows.?

I ate normal within points yesterday and today. Tomorrow is travel day. I'm
hoping to make some good choices over the rest of the week, but I will not
be journaling. I'm not going to stress over it. I've made excellent progress
and come Monday, all my points reset anyway!
