Sounds to me like she has a lot of stress in her life with the job and
family responsibilities. I had to move from LA to a slower environment
before I could lose weight. Do you think she can find ways to cut out some
of the stress? Could she get by working 3/4 days instead of full time?

I can relate... I have an obese sister. Although she doesn't bake

cookies,
she makes alot of pasta and buys sweets. I've tried to talk to her and
offer ways to help. I know that I am obese too. However, I don't give up
and I try to lose weight. I've offered to pay for her weight watchers
classes just to help her..... She can't afford the program I am on, it is
too expensive. She is a single mom, working all of the time and renting

my
other house from me. She is about 5'5" and weighs 270-300 (guesstimate as

I
don't really know).

Sad to see my obese sister constantly baking cookies, eating fattening
foods, etc. etc. Yeah, I know. Many of us have loved ones with weight
issues. Oh, well. Just wanted to vent.

Tonight she made a double batch of cookies and used five sticks of

butter.
When I was tempted to eat some of the cookie dough, I just pictured all

that
fat and....voila. Temptation gone.

That's a great idea to cut the sodium. I should do that. I have high BP. I
rarely use salt on anything, but once in awhile I do. Maybe I should cut it
out altogether.

Sounds like your sister is in a big state of denial.

I can also relate. I have an older half sister. She is about 14
years older then I am and currently weighs in excess of 500 pounds.
She *claims* to be seeing a nutritionist and has lost 80 pounds but
each time we see her she does not look different at all. She eats a
*lot* of refined carbs and sleeps a lot more then anyone should, has
no energy and is constantly complaining about her health problems.
She also does not walk anymore and hasn't in years and gets around her
apartment on a scooter. She goes from her couch to her scooter to the
washroom or to her couch to her scooter to the fridge. Her height is
around 5'1 and she is always comparing my size to hers and claims she
is the slimmer one.

On the other hand I am 5'3, was 331 the last time I weighed myself(3
days ago) and try to walk a little bit each day (I could not live if I
could not walk), am on Atkins and have just recently cut all added
forms of sodium from my diet (and am feeling much better today
physically because of that one small yet significant change)

Many years ago, we went on a family vacation. I was around 8 years old. I
loved salads with thousand island dressing. Ate them at every restaurant.
When I got off the trip, I couldn't stand them. I've never liked that
dressing since then. I can relate. If you eat too much of one thing, you can
get sick to death of it.

It may be easy for you. I got to the point where I can't stand the smell

of
bacon, chicken or eggs..... The only thing I can still eat (if I was
following that wol) is steak and cheese.... It's been a few years, and I
still can't stand bacon. I did this WOL for about 2-3 years.

That's why it's important to NOT stop. You simply modify it slightly so
it works out to the way you want to eat for life.

She is a single mom and has to pay for daycare and bills. Yes, she gets
child support but it isn't much. There is no way that she could afford to
move or work less hours. I help her out the best that I can. I rent her my
old house at a financial loss, I help with occassional bills, I help watch
my neice on weekends so that she can get a break every now and then. She
has no money saved and no extra money a month to put into savings. She has
to pay $650 a month in daycare. My father lives in California (we're in
Texas) and my mom lives 6 hours away so there is no one here that can watch
my neice while sis is at work to help save daycare bills. I can't watch her
during the day, I work 40-50 hours a week and have a very busy schedule. I
am lucky to be in a strong financial position so that I can help her.
However, I worry that she may become dependant on that.

She told me yesterday that she was considering taking me up on my offer to
pay for her to go to Weight Watchers. She also joined Curves about 3 months
ago but hasn't been in over a month due to medical reasons.

She smokes too and I even bought her one of my refills of nicotrol inhaler
so that she can try to quit.

I'll help her, but she needs to take responsibility for her health and life
too. I can't make her quit smoking or lose weight, I can just encourage.
*sigh*

I don't add salt to any food that I cook or eat. I know that there is salt
added to prepackaged food or restaurant food. I actually know people that
add salt to Watermelon.... blech!

We have been very spoiled by food companis and restaurants putting wa
ytoo much salt and sugar into foods. There is no reason healthwise to
eat so much salt. Once you deprogram yourself, you will see that
things like salads or vegetables do not require salt. If you have high
BP, cutting out salt will likely do you good. Watch labels, salt is
added to all prepared foods.

It's getting harder each day to avoid added sodium in our foods. There was
an article in our local paper about the increase in sodium in the packaging
of chicken, beef and pork in the grocery stores. Soon they'll find someway
to add it to fresh vegetables, toog

I think we are talking about two different things here. I am talking
about sticking to a *type of eating* for life. I didn't say eat the
same 10 things for the rest of your life LOL.

The list of specific ingredients which I cannot eat for the rest of my
life is long. However, I manage to find a great deal of variety with
what is left.

Actually I was thinking of just getting myself under 320 pounds right
