Observations after 2 days off plan
Well, as I said I would, I spent 2 days off the reservation.
I won't go through the list of what I had - it reads like food porn - but the strange thing was that most of it was disappointing. There was nothing I had that I felt strongly that I would swap it for one of the things that I regularly eat now. One thing that did strike me was that, no matter what volume of carby food I ate, I was *full* but never felt satisfied. This worked out ok on Wed., although I ate way more dessert than I really should have. But, on Christmas day, between picking at the hors d'oevres, and then the buffet and then the petit fours, I never really stopped eating. It wasn't huge servings (I think my capacity has diminished), but it was way more than I really wanted. Ironically, I could have made a full meal from low carb selections and had the best meal of all. And then I paid for it. I didn't get the carb hangover that so many talk about, but I was seriously bloated and uncomfortable Christmas night, and I'm up about 5 lbs even from where I was before. Bah! Getting back on plan has been painless though. I had no problems ordering low carb meals for breakfast and lunch Friday, and no desire for anything not low carb. Because I couldn't find anything that was induction friendly and easily transported at Penn station (I'm doing a 1-2 week ~induction, as a sort of renewing my vows), I had low carb bars for a snack and then dinner. Walking through Penn station, there were some things that were abstractly tempting, but nothing that actually called for any willpower. Whether or not this jump starts my weight loss (although I hope it does), I think this was a useful experience. Most importantly, I learned that I could go off plan for two days and then get back on it. I also realized that there are strategies that I should have used to keep my consumption moderate, so I didn't make myself uncomfortable. Penultimately, it was interesting to me to see that while I rarely overeat, in the sense of eating until my stomach is overfull, while lowcarbing, it's very hard for me to not do that when I'm consuming carbs. Finally, I saw that while it is temporarily discouraging to get back on the scale and see a number that I thought I'd left far behind, I have enough experience to know that most of it's water and if I did gain a pound or two I can get it back off in the next month. Observations after 2 days off plan
I love the idea of "food porn." LOL
Thanks for sharing your results from carb ingestion. I suspect many folks only post when they have lost weight. gaining weight is hard to admit. |
