Exercise/Calorie question
I am a mortgage banker and have had many days when I worked 10-12 hours. If
you are motivated enough to improve your health... you find time. I wake up 30 mins earlier a couple of times a week to go for a walk now, in addition to curves.... -- Email me at: perpleglow(AT)comcast(DOT)net "Susan Jones-Anderson" wrote in message ... LOL!!!!!! Yea JayJay, ya damned TROLL - Don't you know anything about making an effort to exercise? LOL Ahhhh.. wunnerful... this was the laugh I needed after a monster/emotional day.. Thanks Cammie, no disrespect meant.. but JayJay is not a troll. In fact she is a well respected poster here to asd and she is likely one of the most adamant folks who post here about getting off your duff and taking TIME to improve yourself through exercising. You'd do well to take some advice. Susan 260/219/160 --- 2w 1days 16:42hours of being smoke-free, 635 cigs not smoked, $117.48 saved, 2d 4:55hours of my life saved "Cammie" wrote in message ... "JayJay" wrote in message ... well, if that's your attitude - then you are destine to remain fat. Well you are a wealth of wisdom, I and everyone else surely could have done with your response. At least I am making SOME effort to find SOME time every day to exercise. Excuse me troll. |

Exercise/Calorie question
Curves is AWESOME.... they have 5000 locations that you can visit when away
on biz trips too. -- Email me at: perpleglow(AT)comcast(DOT)net "Cammie" wrote in message ... "Cammie" wrote in message ... I have time for about 30-40 minutes of exercise per day whether walking at lunch or on my treadmill at night. I work 10+ hour days, then I have committee meetings after work and travel and business dinners. I just do not have time on a regular basis for much exercise in quantity as you suggest. I surely have no time for 1-1.5 hours of walking, there is just no way. That is why I asked what I could accomplish a 30-40 min timespan that would be most beneficial to burn calories. Also, having said that... I am the one who recently asked about Curves and if it was beneficial. I was interested in it because Curves is 30 minutes and I believe only 3 times per week. I haven't seriously looked into that, I do have a stationary bike, glider and treadmill at home and a regimen of using those three machines for 30-40 min a day just isn't showing me any weight loss and I only have an average of 1200 calories a day except for a weekly business meeting when I still try to watch but I probably do go 2000 that one day. |

Exercise/Calorie question
I am an AE for a Leading Wholesale Mortgage company.... I too make damn
good money and work hellish hours. I also travel some.... so I know where you are coming from in terms of $$$ and time and stress. The hardest step is the first one. Check out Curves, I've been going 7 weeks now and love it. I make myself leave the office in time to work out 3x a week, and I wake up early to try to make a Saturday class. They are open until 8:00 here, so that often means me working until 7 and rushing to gym. It has helped my sleep as well. I've only been posting/lurking here for about a week. I *think* that the other posters in this thread were using some sort of tough love approach. However, this is just an assumption and may or may not be their method.... -- Email me at: perpleglow(AT)comcast(DOT)net "Cammie" wrote in message ... my god I ask for some simple advise and I get people who do not know me, critisizing me. I am a New York lawyer with a large lawfirm and you obviously have no idea what 10 and sometimes 14 hour days are like and the money is very damn good or I wouldn't be doing it. Thanks for the support in telling me that even though I am trying hard to do 30-40 minutes every single day to exercise, will just assure me to stay fast. Thanks a lot for the vote of confidence people. And I keep a weekly schedule of every single thing that goes into my mouth, that is how I know I do 1200 on average with 2000 occasionally... you people talk to me like I'm stupid and beneath you. Sorry I asked. |

At least I am making SOME effort to find SOME time every day to exercise. Excuse me troll. I'm sorry, but "don't have time" means "don't want to badly enough". Set aside a time for exercise. Make it part of a daily routine: just like taking a shower and brushing your teeth. Having said that, however, I think an exercise bike or an elliptical trainer that allows both leg and arm motion and has resistance settings would be good for exercise. If you don't currently exercise, it will take you a while to work up to 30 or 40 minutes, so time shouldn't be that big of an issue right away. Push youself both in time and intensity. good luck, AL |

I travel a lot for work as well. I was in the fortunate situation where I booked my own rooms and I was usually able to find hotels that had exercise facilities. Typically they have a few treadmills and a few exercise bikes. Since I bike at home I used the treadmill in the hotels as a change of pace. This helped a lot since the travelling that I have done is car travelling and moving around helped a lot. |

Exercise/Calorie question

wrote: Besides aerobics, what one exercise burns the most calories in LEAST amount of time? Preferably a floor exercise... or does walking (treadmill) burn more than any floor exercise does? I'm pretty overweight and cannot do aerobics so this is why I ruled that out. I have very limited time to exercise, so I"m looking for the best for fastest burn. It's difficult to give advise about weight loss without knowing certain things about you such as weight, height, gender (yes it's an issue), and any other problems that might effect what kind of exercises you can do. (joint problems etc) The only thing we have to go on is that you are "pretty overweight", "cannot do aerobics", and judging by your username, you might be female. Therefore, I'l do the best I can given this limited information. Due to mobility issues, very overfat people just don't burn a lot of calories with exercise as compared to calorie restriction. This is how I lost my weight. I started out by dieting and dieting hard and I kept it up day after day, week after week, month after month and as I lost the weight, I added more and more types of exercise. I started out by walking more and taking stairs instead of elevators and escalators. When I got down to the point where "impact" type exercises became possible, I started doing "HIIT" (High Intensity Interval Training) routines which IS a way to burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time. Basically you alternate between an aerobic pace and going "all out". One example would be a run alternating between 2 minutes of light jogging and 30 seconds of pretending you are being chased by a bear. Do a web search on those terms for more info. So my advise would be to start out by losing weight primarily by dieting and slowly adding exercise into your routine until you get down to the point where real cardio is possible and when you get to that point, then spend your "limited" exercise time doing moderate to intense cardio or alternate between cardio and a HIIT routine and continue to diet, you'll still lose most of your weight by dieting. -- Ron Ritzman http://www.panix.com/~ritzlart Smart people can figure out my email address |

Business meetings are hard. When I travel I usually end up having lunch with guys in their 20s. They are at an age where they still have super good metabolism and can seemingly eat anything (recently one confided in me that he was gaining weight and was happy to see that I was eating better at these lunches so that he felt like he could eat better as well). Anyway, we go out to these rural areas and install computers and eat lunch. Most of these places have fried food or fried food. I ask for broiled and it kind of throws them for a loop but they do it for me. It seems like it should be easy but I sometimes feel like I am being a royal pain with my requests which are generally fairly simple -- dressing on the side, no cheese with my salad, broiled fish, etc. Anyway, you can eat well at business meetings but it can be a tough situation. Hang in there. The other thing is you might want to keep a food journal. People in this group use everything form spreadsheets to web programs (fitday.com seems to be popular) to Palm programs (I use BalanceLog and someone else uses CalorieKing). Anyway, you may want to track your foods for a few weeks to see if you are eating more or less than what you think you are eating. I find it to be super helpful and not really a chore at all. It helps me to stay on track with my calorie intake which is certainly an important part of the equation :-) |

Since changing my schedule to include more and more exercise I have slept better. Also, if I have to leave work to make it a class, I don't always feel the need to say I am going to the gym or I need to leave now or I won't be able get a ride in before dark or I have to go to dog school, etc. To some extent, all they need to know is I have an appointment to be somewhere else (well, and that I have my work done). Anyway, it's all about choices. For me, making better choices :-) |

Exercise/Calorie question

wrote: well, if that's your attitude - then you are destine to remain fat. Actually, her story sounds familiar. With some exceptions, 30-40 minutes a day is probably all that most people with real lives have for exercise. Therefore, for such people, it's probably best to use that time exercising for the cardio and resistance benefit and forget about the calories. Do that with the diet. So unless one is someone like me who has the time to spend all day going up and down a mountain, the 30-40 minutes is the best approach. It's something that can be done long term and it's easy to incorporate into most modern lifestyles. -- Ron Ritzman http://www.panix.com/~ritzlart Smart people can figure out my email address |

Exercise/Calorie question
"Cammie" wrote in message ... It seems to me what we have here are some people who have lost some weight who either 1) have egos about it or 2) think they are the authority on everything. I thought I was asking for some simple laid back advise at possibly a friendly NG but I got criticized and judged and no help what so ever. The things is....is asd is not simply a "there, there dear" ng. We do not just provide nice words. Support sometimes means being a bit more honest than one would care to admit. Let's face it; all of us are here because we have been or are overweight. To varying degrees, we have been where you are. We have face the denial anf igured out it wasn't a river in Egypt. If you want to make the time for exercise, you will, simple as that. If you don't, you'll keep finding excuses and remain overweight.
