Default Good Protein Shakes?

Hi All,
I have introduced myself on the alt.support.diet newsgroup, but not this
one. I am Jenn, 27 years old, 5'10 and 215 pounds. I have what's called
PCOS, polycystic ovarian syndrome, so I am insulin resistant and my doctor
wants me to follow the Zone.
For breakfast I usually have oatmeal, and it's hard for me to be able to get
eggs everyday, so I thought a low carb, low sugar protein shake would be a
good fit for me. Is Myoplex or Atkins good? Thanks!

Jenn

Forgot to mention that I don't do well with whey protein shakes, give me
bowel problems...

I have found that the KETO shakes are excellent. my favorite is the
strawberry shortcake, followed by orange cream. I never tried myoplex or
Atkins's shakes.

If you like having oatmeal for breakfast, try this: grind up a tablespoon
each of sesame, flax, and pumpkin seeds. Add 4-5 tablespoons of boiling
water, a little salt and artificial sweetener. Stir. It's quite yummy,
very filling, and has about 4.5 grams of usable carbs, not counting the
sweetener. To me, it tastes much better than oatmeal.

Also, if you want eggs for breakfast, what about devilled eggs? Just
because you've never eaten them for breakfast before, doesn't mean you
can't. You can make them ahead and just keep them in the fridge for a
quick grab on your way out the door.

The Atkins ready to drink shakes are, in my opinion, pretty good as long
as you drink them *cold*. They're convenient and portable, but not cheap.

My experience with the Atkins shake mix was not happy. For some reason,
it made me extremely bloated and not a little nauseated. Some people seem
to be sensitive to something in the shake mix, so your mileage may vary.

My default shake mix is the designer whey, esp. the strawberry flavor, but
if whey doesn't agree with you, that's out. I also like the Keto brand
banana shake mix, although I actually usually mix it into my yogurt.

Finally, if you like having warm cereal in the morning, since you aren't
on Atkins induction, you might consider flaxmeal. When I have it, I
usually have .25 C flaxmeal, .25 of a chopped up apple, a splash of cream
and enough warm water to turn the flaxmeal into library glue. g If I'm
being esp. decadent, I'll add a tablespoon or two of slivered almonds. Mix
the water and flaxmeal before adding the other stuff.

I think the Atkins pre-mixed shakes in the cans taste fine, Vanilla or
Chocolate Royale are the best. Wal-Mart or Sam's club are normally the
least expensive, sometimes Trader Joes also.

Ingredients: Water, calcium caseinate, soybean oil, whey protein
concentrate...

I'd still give them a try in spite of your whey protein concern. If there
is a Harmon store in your area they sell for $2.00 each.

Have to ditto that.. accidentally got some of the soy ones last time I
ordered and they were good too. the orange one if you throw a few ice cubes
in the blender, it's like an orange creamsicle... yummmmmm.

You can buy ZonePerfect protein powder (a blend of both Whey and Soy
protein) and mix one yourself in a blender.

Hmm - ZonePerfect blend is mostly Soy, and only a little Whey.
