What an inspiration! You do look wonderful. How many snow days do your
kids get? I would never survive a winter of so much snow. Elise (who

will
not absolutely, positively not drive in the snow due to a severe chicken
like tendency in that regard).

Believe it or not, we have 0 snow days planned into the calendar. It's only
been the last few years that schools in the area have been called due to
weather and that means ice. People up here are used to a lot of snow and
can get through it pretty well. Lately though we've had more freezing
rain - followed by snow which is impossible to drive through and dangerous,
so school have to close. We also have to close when it is -40F which
happened once last winter.

Also, most people up here drive 4WD vehicles (trucks and SUV's) and know how
to use them properly. I wouldn't get out of my road without a high vehicle
because we don't get plowed until late in the day if at all on day 1 of
storms.

Thank you so much! Keep up the good work with the cigs! I don't miss 'em
anymore, except for once last night when I stopped at the bar. Then I got
close enough to it that the smell made me ill - which I just love.

Here in the DC area it's just the opposite. The roads are way
over-full at the best of times and traffic is always horrendous.
Relatively few people are good snow drivers. (In fact, because people
are always moving here from all over the world, driving tends to be
chaotic in general. There's a wide range of styles and customs, and
lots of people don't know where they're going :-).) And we get a lot
of ice and freezing rain, since in a storm temperatures tend to hover
around the freezing point. The combination of these things leads to a
huge mess whenever we have a storm. There have been incidents in the
past where kids have had to spend the night at their school because
the buses were in such gridlock they never got there to pick them up.
So now the school systems are super cautious and will close even when
snow is predicted.

And then last week we had school closings due to Isabel. The first
couple of days they just advised everyone to stay off the roads. And
after that quite a few schools didn't have power or potable water.

I thought I'd just post an update of my week for those interested.

Sun. - Packers lost, but so did the Niners (sorry Martha it's a work

thing -
the boss is a SF fan). Cooked dinners for DH during the entire game and a
week's worth of HMR cookies for me. Ate an HMR entree in
addition to the shakes. Did Susan Powter tape in AM.
Mon. - Ran 3 mi in AM, hit Curves after work.
Tue. - First day with no workout in months because I overslept. Needed

the
sleep more than the workout. Couldn't go after work because I had a
football game to attend. Still put over 17,000 steps on pedometer.
Wed. - Ran 3 mi in AM. HMR in PM. Weighed in at 153.5, committed to
starting transition back to food next week (eating the potoato) regardless
of whether or not I hit 150 (my fasting goal weight) - brought home

entrees
for 5 nights. Volleyball league after HMR. Ran 1 mi to warm up then

played
3 games, shagged balls, and did spiking drills. Real games start next

week.
Thu. - WEIGHED 150 POUNDS in AM. Decided it was water fluctuation and

would
be back up the next day. Went to work feeling giddy. Curves after work,
then 90 min yoga class. Ate an entree.
Fri. - STILL WEIGHED 150 POUNDS. Went to Curves before work for the first
time. Got my monthly weigh in and measurements. Waist is now 29.5" down
from 47" (-2.5" this month). Hips went down 2". I'm too numb from the

shock
to wrap my mind around this. Ate an entree.
Weekend plans: Sat - 3 mi walk to raise $$ for Alzheimer's, then Curves,

and
then work all day in classroom. Sun - 5 mi hike (weather permitting -

it's
supposed to rain all day/rain plan is short run then power yoga) and then
cook in the afternoon.

Oh, and by the way, I HIT MY FLIPPIN "mini" GOAL. I also updated my web
page with a current pic (www.resurvey.org/jenn/hmr). (BTW ladies - the

pants
in the pic are the cords I bought 6 days ago - mentioned in other

threads -
and they're already getting loose)

That was the 1st time I've seen your website... You look GREAT. I hope I do
as well as you. As an HMR dieter, your success is inspiring. I haven't
seen a number under 200 on my scale since I was 17.... I hope I can do as
well as you. I am almost done with week 6..... Anyway, if you don't mind
me asking, how old are you? I am currently 34. Thanks!!

Gosh, snow already? Where do you live? I'm actually looking forward to
snow (ski fever), but this weekend here in Portland we're supposed to

hit
90
again. It's been a super hot and dry summer for the PNW...

I'm in far northern Wisconsin, just south of Lake Superior - on the fringe
of an area called "the Lake Superior snow belt." My first year up here we
had snow on 9/21, then 70's during deer hunting season (the week before
Thanksgiving). Go figure. I swear this morning there was snow mixed with
rain when I was driving to Curves. BTW, my brother and his family are

right
over the border from you in Vancouver, WA.

I have to say - although I've never had more than 40 or so lbs to lose,
every time I see your website and the progress you've made, I'm just
awe-struck. I'm curious how your husband has been through your
transition... Seem like it would be such a huge change for him too.
Anyways, I congratulate you on your success - I think you're amazing.

det

My husband has been great. He was initially shocked when I told him I
wanted to try HMR and he didn't think I'd be able to stick with it but

kept
that to himself. Once I was under 200 lbs he was convinced I'd make it

all
the way. It's been huge for him and we've had issues, but we're very good
at working through stuff. I received a large and very beautiful flower
arrangement at work today in celebration of this latest milestone.
Thanks for the compliments. I think most of the posters here on ASD are
pretty darn amazing (yourself included) and I'm glad to have so much

support
from everyone.

Jenn

Jenn,

You are soooo cool! What an inspiration you are for all of us! : D

37 on my last b-day. Getting below 200 was a major deal for me.
Speaking of HMR, I started refeed today. Scale was at 149 and I decided it
was just time for the potato instead of waiting until next week. I don't
want to lose much more than where I'm at so I need to add the calories. The
fiber, etc. will cause a temporary gain, but then I'll keep dropping weight
over the next 6 weeks during the transition to my maintenance calories.
