Default Kicking the Caffeine.......

I've been on low carb and maintenance since 1999, (with some
backsliding here and there) but I have had enormous difficulty getting caffeine
out of my life. I have greatly reduced my caffeine intake, but when I try to
go "cold turkey" it is unbearable. Any advice?

if you really feel like you need to kick it, try tapering down. don't
know how you'd do that with soda, but with coffee you can just start
mixing decaf in with your caf until you're finally drinking all decaf.

but i don't see any reason to quit it. i just drink half caf/half decaf
and call it good.

I used to think my caffeine addiction was acceptable. I had kicked other
hardcore habits (smoking, for example), and decided that giving up caffeine
was far too difficult a challenge.

I recently joined a gym and work out regularly. I start my workout on
cardio machines with hand sensors that you grab a hold of and your heart
rate pops up on the display. I was shocked when I saw what caffeine was
really doing to me. My heart was beating way fast before I even started
exercising.

Something to consider. Or not.

What is "way fast" ? Caffeine usually doesn't hang around
for long. You would have to go to the gym relatively soon
after taking a lot of it. Maybe you're just not drinking
enough water. Dehydration also increases the heart rate.
Also note that some endurance athletes use caffeine to get
the their heart rate up. If you get palpitations when you
drink even a little coffee, or if you get headaches when you
don't drink coffee, then you probably have a caffeine problem.
