Why do so many weight loss products contain Rhodiola Rosea?
I just posted something on that "Fruitagia" thread about my experience
with Rhodiola. Of all the ingredients in that "mystery juice" product, this one made some scientific sense, but it really has never been a "weight loss herb." There are too many junky "miracle" herbal diets for my liking. But I have noticed that a lot of these all seem to have an herb, Rhodiola Rosea, as one of the key ingredients. Has anyone had experience taking Rhodiola for weight loss? I've been taking it for years and I love it, but it hasn't caused me to lose any weight. I wonder if anyone else has had a weight loss from Rhodiola. The best one on the market is from Sweden (Swedish Herbal Institute) sold in the USA by www.proactivebio.com. There's an article from Life Extension Magazine that I found, which I post below, which calls it a "cellular energy producing herb." There is no product pitched in this article, just science. I believe that Life Extension sells a Rhodiola product, but as I said most of their studies come from the Swedish product above. FYI, if you wanted to read further. I'm still studying Rhodiola myself and I have other technical documents I can share if there is more interest here. DGJ http://www.proactivebio.com/_pdf/R.%...0Extension.pdf |

But in my case, it may be because I am a generally happy person already, and not in need of "mood support," which is one of Rhodiola's major strengths. To someone else, feeling good about things and not having to take a chemical antidepressant may result in weight loss. (Most of those chemical antidepressants have a weight-gain element to them, right? Rhodiola's advantage here is that there is a boost in positive mood without that chemical weight gain). Some overeaters have a depression problem. This is my guess as to why Rhodiola is included so often in weight loss supplements, despite the fact that no one ever says that it is a "weight loss" product. DGJ |
