I also sleep poorly, and not much, and I agree there is a connection with weight. Metabolism?! -- Peter M., 600 miles south of Boston, Massachusetts, USA g Well, you've persevered and done a great job, and I can do the same. Do you think the sig line is tedious? I am tired of seeing it myself, but I put it on when someone on another group opined that it would be nice to know where people were located. Maybe I'll drop the location bit for a while. -- Jean B., 12 miles west of Boston, Massachusetts, USA |

I was just being a smart-*ss! Actually, it *is* nice to see where people are from. Myself, I was born and raised in Taxachusetts - er, Massachusetts also -- in the Berkshires. I moved South in 1976 when I was 25 years old and have been here ever since. I live in North Carolina now and work in Virginia. In article , "Helen Larkin" wrote: In the last two days I've suddenly put on three or four pounds for no discernible reason. My food intake has been absolutely as normal..... the only things that are different are, a) I'm up to an hour on the treadmill now, 50 mins of which is at 85% max heart rate, or b) I've been working way too hard and getting nowhere near enough sleep. Could either of these things have an impact, do you think? Both could - when I first started the hard-core exercise at the health club, I put on a few pounds immediately - I suspect because I wasn't eating enough, but also because I was retaining water for awhile, no clue why. Bang, it went away. Oh, I am so waiting for the "Bang, it went away" part! I did my Sunday weigh in yesterday, and was up 3 pounds. It was especially annoying because I have been keeping the Carbdemons at bay all week. I also took 3 killer 60 minutes walks mostly uphill. I was truly expecting a happy whoosh, not a visit from the EVIL whooshing fairy. I was so bummed I did not even read or post. (Sigh) But today, (thank God for fresh days!) I have renewed faith and will not use my disappointment as an excuse to indulge. However, I must confess to one cookie and half of a hotdog bun yesterday. Oddly enough, the bun was not the momentos reunioin I anticipated, and I was dizzy and sweating from one cookie. So I threw away the rest of the bun, and disposed of the offending remaining cookies. Now I await the good fairy... Jeano |

Jeano I have found that, in addition to being slow, my weight loss is totally unpredictable. When I think I have lost weight, that I have been very good, I haven't. When I cut a few more corners, I may find myself lighter. May. I do need to start only recording a weekly low or something. -- Jean B. |

When I cut a few more corners, I may find myself lighter. May. I do need to start only recording a weekly low or something. I find it really difficult to not be controlled by the numbers of the day. Intellectually, I totally know better than to place any merit on the daily numbers, but I get such a thrill seeing the weight go down. I can handle maintaining as well. But it seems that as soon as I see a gain, it shades my mood. I know the thing to do would be not to weigh every day. I try to focus on the journey and not just the destination. And if I am really whacked by it I will not weigh for a few days. Ah, the virtues of patience... Jeano |
