Nutrition computer software?
Hello all,
I'm looking for a software program (for Windows) that will let me enter all the food I eat with the nutrition info, and then I can just tell it specifically what I eat every day and have it automagically keep track of calorie count and all that jazz. I did a search on download.com and came up with a buttload of this kind of app, so was wondering what people on this group are using, if any? Is there maybe 1 or 2 of them that are considered to be the best amoung the group? Thanks |

Nutrition computer software?
Hark! I heard Joe User say:

Excellent decision! A food log, IMHO, makes all the difference. I did a search on download.com and came up with a buttload of this kind of app, so was wondering what people on this group are using, if any? Is there maybe 1 or 2 of them that are considered to be the best amoung the group? I like DietPower (www.dietpower.com), although it can be kind of clunky; you have to close the food log to open the recipe creator, etc. Still, it's really helped me a lot! I use it to plan out what I can eat for the day, based on what how many calories I'm using at dinner (family time). It's especially nice to know how many calories I have left for evening snacks, as that's my favorite munch time. And it helps me cut back here and add there, depending on what sounds good at the time. For example, let's say I'm planning to have some low-fat string cheese and Ry-Krisp crackers for an evening snack, but I decide that I'm extra hungry and want some carrots or celery too; DietPower will help figure how much I need to cut back on the cheese and/or crackers to save enough calories for the veggies, down to 1/8th of a serving. This makes it much easier to stick to my calorie limits -- basically, I create a personal diet plan every day. It's fun and gives me freedom to eat what I want, at the time of day that I want it. This approach may not work for everyone, but I've lost 14 pounds in less than 8 weeks, so I'm pretty happy... :-) -- J.J. in WA State (Change COLD to HOT for e-mail) Start of diet : 251 Current Weight : 237 Original Weight: 275 Goal Weight : 150 |

They also have a pc based program that a few of us use - including myself. I like their pc version because it's a little easier to use and has many more reports available. Beverly |

A lot of times I eat with the intention of logging it, and even that changes how I eat! |

You can download a 2 week trial from http://www.dietpower.com. I haven't tried any others so I can't compare them. However, I am definitely sold. Can dietpower synchronize somehow between two computers? i Yes. The easiest way is to use DietPower's built-in import/export feature. Export the data to a shared directory from one PC, then import it to the other PC. Once you buy the program, you can copy it on to any number of computers, so long as each copy is used only by the original licensee. Nutrition computer software?
I downloaded several and gave them all "test drives" and found that FitDay
is probably the best of the lot. It has lots of options and a huge database to which you can add your own under 'customs' Www.fitday.com in article , PhatDaddy at wrote on 4/9/04 21:27: "Joe User" wrote in message ...
