Default Question about carbs

How many carbs do you think the average, non-Atkins person eats in a day? I
am sure it's well over a hundred! I mean, my husband downs carbs like
they're going out of style. He can have Toaster Strudel for breakfst, and
an entire pint of Haagen Daaz for dessert at night, along with his favorite
Nestle Quick Chocolate milk, and never gain a pound. He's six feet tall and
160 lbs. I guess he is just lucky. I am amazed at how many carbs he
eats -- and wonder how many most non-Atkins people eat. Any ideas?

When I was on my high carb low fat "diet" I was consuming about 300 grams of
carbs per day.

Quite a change from 300a day to 20

Well, I probably wouldn't count as the "average person", but I started
adding it up one day, and Iwould drink like 4 or 5 sodas a day, which right
there is like 200g, usually a sandwich for lunch, and chips, usually more
bread in some form at night, snacks in between all of that, I was getting
somewhere around 5-600 g of carbs a day, I think, possibly more because I'm
sure some things I didn't just have ONE serving of. Huge difference from
600 to 20 a day!

I'm with you Brian. Egg McMuffin, potato cake, coke on the way to work.
Wendy's double cheese burger, fries, coke for lunch. Potatoes every night
with dinner which always included bread or rolls and something fried in a
flour dredge, big 'ol glass of milk to drink. We always had some type of
desert in the evening. We would also eat out 3-4 times per week, usually
Mexican food. I would usually finish off a basket of chips by myself before
diner would even arrive. 600+ carbs per day easily. I do about 10-ish now.

I know I ate pasta twice a day most days, way more than a "serving",
probably 4 or 5 servings, and a bagel for breakfast when I had breakfast.
Just the pasta alone was probably 400 grams or so for me. Then there were
the miscellaneous snacks, which I didn't eat every day but probably 1 or 2
times a week I'd have candy at work or some chips with my lunch. So I
wouldn't be surprised if I was up to 600 grams some days, probably 400 or
500 on average.
