Atkins vs deadly Trans-Fat
Hi Folks,
I just learned about how deadly Trans-Fat is. Trans-Fat , also known as Partially Hydroginated vegitable oil is worse than smoking (per lots of studies). Not only it can ruin your body with deadly diseases, it also gets you FAT. Eating PURE animal fat is much healthier than this substance. Who uses this substance? Surprisingly: Almost everyone that sells food in USA, It is heavily found in cereal, popcorn, fries, all deep fried foods, cookies, ...etc YOU NAME IT. Basically, margrine is 100% trans-fat. The body cannot burn it easily. I believe one of the MAJOR contributors to the success of Low carb diet is the absence of trans-fat since it resides mainly around carbohydrate-cooked foods and deserts. My advise to LCs is to avoid this substance completely. Take out of your shopping basket any food (even LC foods) that contain it. Use natural fats such as olive oil. Even saturated fat is much better for you than Trans-Fat which is processed vegitables oil. Read this article for great details about it: http://www.treelight.com/health/Part...natedOils.html Imagine: Almost every cookie off the shelf has a great amount of this deadly substance. LCing gets rid of it. I'd avoid deep frying anything to avoid producing it. -J |

What you have done is been exposed to the unsupported, unreferenced opinions of one man, Eric Armstrong. Much of what he says is quite true, but there are several areas where his claims are not supported, particularly in some of the claims he makes for coconut oil. Coconut oil is very high in saturated fat, 87% according to the ASDA. Not exactly a "healthy" oil to eat or cook with. Coconut oil is higher in saturated fat than butter, *much* higher. Coconut oil is so high in saturated fats that it solidifies at room temperature. Could Eric Armstrong possibly have some pecuniary interest in sales of coconut oil? Or is he just one of those people who believe in the face of all evidence to the contrary that although coconut oil has one of the highest levels of saturated fats, that somehow, unlike other saturated fats, it is healthy? There are people who argue that this is true, without supporting evidence of course. I would do a little research before endorsing *everything* that this man says. Much of what he writes about is quite valid and well supported by research, but not when it comes to coconut oil. He makes the absurd claim that because coconut oil melts when handled, that indicates that it metabolises faster than other oils (that are already liquid a body temperatures) and will only provide energy, not build fat. If it looks like a kook, if it walks like a kook, if it talks like a kook ... Be careful. Regards David -- To reply, please include the letters DNF anywhere in the subject line. Nope. Margarine is mix of fatty acids. Trans-fats are only smart part of it (but it does not make them less dangerous). Use natural fats such as olive oil. Even saturated fat is much better for you than Trans-Fat which is processed vegitables oil. Imagine: Almost every cookie off the shelf has a great amount of this deadly substance. LCing gets rid of it. I'd avoid deep frying anything to avoid producing it. Well, above is correct. Mirek |

Don't you have 100% non-hydrogenated margarines where you live? Becel?
