Sisters in nearly every family are rivals, it's just the way it is. It
probably didn't help the situation by smugly having just a glass of skim
milk, as if you say "neener, neener, I can control my weight and you
can't."

Maybe it would have been nicer to have ordered two smaller meals. It

goes
both ways after all and no one person is 100% to blame.

I have to agree with you, Martha. Somtimes when I'm out with my mom and
sisters, it's difficult to maintain my WOE without illiciting some kind
of comments. I have found it's better to start out with "Hey, lets split
an appetizer" or to get my own movie pocorn (sans buttery goop) than to
fuss or react and spoil a good time.

I think one of the biggest problems is that a lot of families equate
food with fellowship and affection. When you don't partake, you're
rejecting them. I find there's plenty of room in my WOE for a cookie at
Grandma's house, or a nice salad when I'm out with my sister.

Amy

Thanks, Amy. Hey, it's hard to get along with families. It's not like we
have a choice in the manner....My father is always trying to push my
buttons, but I don't let him anymore. He lives on the east coast. Whenever
we're together and he tries to get my goat, I get up and leave, I don't care
where it is. I've gone to visit them 3000 miles away, and turned around and
left. It's not worth it to me.

When I hear about someone like Susan who lost her sister, it makes the
childish belly-aching seem even more juvinile. Get over it, I say. Attitude
is everything.

Susan, I am extremely sorry you have lost your sister; these are things one
never gets over.

Good for you.

I had a MIL who did the same thing. I flew out to the Left Coast to
visit her, after not even talking to her for 15 years, and she started
in on me at Bob Hope. I warned her and she continued in the cab. told
the cabbie to turn it around. Took the next flight back. never spoke
to her again until she died.

It was her money that bought the ticket. lol

Tell the family what Fritz Perls said:

"I was not put in this world to live up to your expectations!".

I work for the airlines, so it didn't cost me anything.
