Default Using low-carb diet to fight cancer

Here's an interesting article:

A quote I found interesting:

Others, says Schmidt, dropped out because they found it hard to stick
to the no-sweets diet: "We didn't expect this to be such a big
problem, but a considerable number of patients left the study because
they were unable or unwilling to renounce soft drinks, chocolate and
so on."

Guess they never heard of artificial sweeteners.

1) if you're suffering, then resricting diet (after a life-long conditioning
that fat is bad) is going to be really, really hard to do.

2) About time they did a real study on this. It surely will be sad to learn
that the low-fat (ie, high carb) diet promotes cancer, huh? Not that the
notion hasn't been put forth long ago.

i started separating carbs from protein. i forced the same diet on my
mother and my husband. and .... they got rid of all the ouches they
had. like high blood pressure, overweight, high cholestoral, gout and
so on. this is a dr. hay diet. check that one out. it is amazing, how
healthy it makes you. and ... you are supposed to eat carbs because of
your kidneys, but the separation makes you healthy. i give free
information, if anybody wants to contact me for that.

i sure would like to add something: you can eat how much you want.
just in the right sequence. between protein and carb meals has to be a
3 hour break. you get so much energy from doing it like that. it is a
tough diet, because you live with the clock, but you are never hungry
and do not have to live without your favorite treats. it is too long
to discribe it here, but i am really happy to pass on the information
at noooooooo charge and nooooooo pop-ups.

That also sounds like the system from Sommersize by actress
Suzanne Sommers. At has two features of note -

1) Using the word "carbs" not for any carb source but only for foods
above some threshold of carb density. This has the hidden feature
of assuming carb sources below some level can be ignored or even
labeled carb free. Dr Atkins in his original 1972 Doctor Atkins Diet
Revolution (without the word New like all of the later editions) made
the same mistake and idiot sound bite press folks blasted low
carbing for over two decades as a result of that poor wording choice.

2) Treating a single meal of only carby foods like oatmeal as
harmless as long as it is not eaten with high protein or high fat
foods. Maybe this is a digestion issue like in Food for Life. It
will work okay for folks without insulin resistance but those are the
ones who tend to do just as well on low fat as on low carb. It will
definitely fail for folks with reactive hypoglycemia, diabetes and so
on.

you are supposed to eat carbs because of your kidneys

Completely false and a sign of utter ignorance of low carb issues.
It's a very old lie and it is one that was leveled against Dr Atkins
early on. His defense was simple - Name one patient in all of
medicine who had no kidney problems before starting low carb,
who followed the directions in the book (moving through the
phases and such) who then developed kidney problems that can't
be attributed to other causes. In the decades from his going before
the medical review board in the 1970s and his death in the 2000s
the AMA brought a grand total of ZERO case names up in
response to his challenge. There is absolutely no evidence that
cutting dietary carbs even to the true-zero levels of Inuit hunters
on the ice has the slightest ill effect on the kidneys.

Also note that ASLDC has folks who started low carbing even
after having been diagnosed with kidney damage and they saw
improvement as a result of their dietary changes. With existing
kidney damage, caution is called for, but low carbing when
carefully done is definitely known to help in some cases.

Yup. In fact, eating carb alone is worse as it causes higher bg rises.
It's better to eat it with fat, which slows the absorption.

The typical cause of kidney damage is elevated bg, thus carbs cause the
problem rather than solve it.
