I bought a packet of this. It says zero carbs and 100% xylitol, all
natural, no artificial sweetners, no aspartame, sugar-free, and all that

How does it compare with Atkins recommended Splenda in terms of whether
or not it is good for you? It tastes pretty much like real sugar.

It's a sugar alcohol.

And the manufacturers of sugar alcohols claim that you can deduct
all of the carbs from sugar alcohol the same as we can deduct fiber.
Of course they have a clear financial bias so their claim needs to
beconsidered in that light.

Some folks find that some sugar alcohols cause them to have the runs.

Of folks who measure their bg, some find sugar alcohols raise their bg
as much as would be expected for the calories, so they *do* act as carbs
in their body.

It's possible to conduct experiments to determine approximately
what percentage your own body absorbs as carbs but it's a lot of
work. I have chosen to not believe the claims, so I count sugar
alcohol carbs at 100% - It's easier than the experiment work.

And a lot of folks find that some sugar alcohols are better than others;
erythritol seems to be one of the safest ones for not causing diarrhea
nor raising bg much.
