Setting Goals
I've never really been any good at this... I always reach too high and
fall too far if you get my drift. So here's something reasonable, I think to start off with. Today is January 17, 2004. I am 5'4" tall and currently weigh 257.75 LBS. MY GOAL: By June 17, 2004, I'd like to loose 30 lbs. and weigh in at 227. Micki -- -- Imajica |

Setting Goals
Hey, Micki,
That's a great goal and you can do it. Let us know how it is going. I'd suggest doing a search on the 'net on goal-setting. I recently gave a talk on this subject and found some really good stuff. You may surprise yourself once you get into a healthy eating and exercise routine by exceeding your goals. Keep us posted of your progress. Beverly |

For one thing, you can achieve them and that makes you feel good and ready to set the next goal. Whereas longer term goals tend to be easier to forget about. Also, if you make the goals directly dependent on the scale, it can be far easier to be disappointed. Not everyone's body loses weight in a regular or quick fashion. Might be better to set some goals for how often you exericise, or how many healthy meals you eat a week. Mind you, long term goals are fine too, but it's good to have those in-between goals... and goals that aren't entirely focused on what the scale says too. Cynthia |

Setting Goals
My goals are size of clothing I'll wear by certain time. We are all
differant and YOU are the ONLY one who knows what is best for YOU. GO FOR IT!! Keep telling us how it is going!! If you 'fall off' just don't look back but rather look at what's ahead !!Brighter future, don't you agree? I visualize the faces of others. How surprised they keep getting when they see me getting thinner Guess ths is a girl thing? glo |

MY GOAL: By June 17, 2004, I'd like to loose 30 lbs. and weigh in at 227. Heh. I'm really starting to sound like a curmudgeon, but I don't like it. The problem with setting a goal 6 months out is that people too easily get discouraged when they realize they aren't going to make it (which they realize by projecting out their current loss rate.) Fact is, it takes time to work out the kinks. But no matter HOW long it takes, it's worth working on having new diet and exercise habits be a way of life. What I *REALLY* hate is when someone says, "I started exercising and eating right and it didn't work for me." So they quit. Um, how 'bout try again? I mean, really, is anything ELSE supposed to work? So, instead of just knocking you about, how about you set a goal for this week to drink 8 glasses of water every day and exercise three times. Can you do that? Dally |

Dally Thanks for colaterally helping me! I got up this morning, got myself a gun, no wait, I got on the scale and...242. Doh! The same as last week, despite about 10 miles walking and eating (mostly) healthy. Then I thought, measure something. When I measured my stomach, I discovered that I'd lost an inch. Which reminded me about Covert Bailey's advice to just keep doing it in order to train your body to get used to it and make the necessary adjustments. I message I remember from a very bright guy I knew from OA years ago: You start over every day. |

Are you sure that you stood the exact same way and didn't hold your stomach in and didn't pull the tape tighter than when you originally measured. An inch is a lot to lose in a week unless you were bloated from a lot of water weight (then the loss should have shown up on the scale). I know that sometimes we want progress so bad that we fool ourselves not intending too. Then when we measure the next time and do it differently then the measurement is not as excellent as before so we get discouraged and go out an eat a big whomping piece of cheesecake because if being good doesn't help, then nothing will work and it doesn't matter if you have a 700 calorie snack. Remember to keep going no matter what. Tonia |

My belt is also telling me that I lost it. I'll weigh in again tomorrow, because my weight fluctuates 2-4 pounds per day. If I had any money, I'd also replace the scale, which is 20 years old. |
