Default Beware New DaVinci Chocolate Sauce

I ordered this thinking it would be Splenda-sweetened like other Da
Vincis. Nope - tons of maltitol, and a hopelessly high carb count.
Don't be fooled as I was.

Not sure where you ordered it from, but it never hurts to check the
web for more info on a product. Netrition is usually a good source
for nutrition information on low carb products. That would have told
you what you needed to know. Sorry. :-(

Take care,
Carmen

Netrition is a very good place for everything -- service, selection,
information, etc.

Very true. I'm expecting some DaVinci coffee syrups today from them.
Normally I get them at TJ Maxx, but they've been a bust for that
lately.

Take care,
Carmen

Sorry to hear that. Can you return it or not?

Maybe that's because it was a sauce and not a syrup? Too bad so
many products contain maltitol--and have such high carb counts on
top of that.

Rats! Thanks for the warning. I'm working through a bottle of Waldens atm,
not bad if you eat it on something cold, but the texture goes if you put it
on something hot.

Nicky.

I don't think any of the commercial chocolate sauces are nearly as good
as just cocoa powder (especially a high grade one) with sucralose, a
touch of vanilla extract, and, if you like, some gum (like guar or
xantham) for thickening.

Ive just started the Atkins and read on their webpage that "
certain sugar alcohols, such as maltitol, do not affect blood sugar and are
acceptable." I gather from what you are all saying in this thread that this
is not true?

Also, im in the UK, so what is a cup equivalent to here?

Could you clarify please. Thanks

It is always best to not trust claims that seem "to good to be true." Many
people find that sugar alcohols affect their blood sugar and act just like
regular carbs. Others, OTOH, don't. Also, many find that too much sugar
alcohols will have to in the bathroom for long periods of time. Finally,
products that contain sugar alchols have calories and if you consume too
much, you won't lose weight, if that's your goal.

If you're a diabetic, use your meter as your guide. If you're trying to
lose weight, you'd be best off just not starting up with SA products, IMO.

Could you clarify please. Thanks
