Default 6 Months Post Op! Lab Results.........

My 6 month blood work came back. My elevated ALT level that was up on 2
occasions a couple months ago(a liver value of some sort) and has now
gone back
down to 24 as it alwaya had been, so the Protonix was responsible for
the high reading of 89. My AIC panel was 4.8! KEWL huh??? The only
minute thing wrong with me was that my
iron was a tad low. The lowest acceptable normal value on their chart
is 40, mine was
36. They had me go back in this morning for a finger poke hematocrit to
see if I was anemic and it was 43( we polycystic ovary syndrome woman
have generally have high crits) so my blood is fine just my iron is
low. My doc said it wasn't so low that he wants to supplement me
though. He thinks I just may not absorb it like I used to since the
surgery. He also said my iron level was only 41 before surgery and
wasn't high anyway.
So in other words what he was saying is this might be my new normal
level for me. He says he will repeat it in 3 months and if it has
dropped he will supplement me. All my other lab work was perfecto!!!!!
If I can get away with no iron supplement that is cool cuz iron is
known to be constipating ;(

I'm curious how your skin is doing? The reason I'm asking is that I just
saw a woman on t.v. who lost a lot of weight after gastric bypass and had
to spend $40,000US to have enormous amounts of excess skin removed. I
don't know what her final weight was, but she started at over 400 pounds.

I'm lumpy bumpy a bit mishapen in the panni area. I have a vertical
scar from pubic area to under the belly button from removing my ovary 3
years ago and a vertical scar from just above the belly button to just
under the sternum. By the time I have a tummy tuck I will have 1/2 of
the upper scar cut away and pulled down with a new belly button in the
line and the ovary scar will be gone!!!! I am blessed with no stretch
marks. The weight of the excess skin and fat still in my lower belly
pulls the top out so my area between the boobs and belly button
isntprobably as lumpy as I could be. My belly reminds me of bread dough
on the first rise LOL!!!
I will definitely have a lower body lift. They lipo the flanks and
sides, lift your butt, remove the panni, maybe some lipo on inside
thighs or pulled up. It costs $31,000.00 and my sister in law just had
hers done by a great doc in Kirkland, Wa. Her belly is smooth and drum
tight right now due to the swelling still there. Her insurance picked
up $10 thousand of it and she paid $21 thousand. My doc is great about
documenting the skin status right now with chart notes and pics. When
the time comes we will submit an insurance pre~auth.

If you eat enough red meat, you won't need to supplement iron. :-)

Good to hear you are doing well!

Cheers!

I have eaten a few selective cuts but I eat the leaner less fatty meats
like chicken tenderloins, tuna, halibutbetc cuz fat no matter how you
slice it makes me feel icky. I was prewarned before surgery I wouldnt
tolerate fat and sugar like I used to. I can no longer eat mayo,
cheeses, butter, any thing fried, or high fat foods like cream cheese
etc. I dont complain I live with it. I truly dont miss it. I have been
eating beets though. What else has iron in it other than red meat?
Spinach? I could cut back on romaine heart salad and eat spinach salad
I guess.

I can tolerate fat but I'm not overly fond of it. ;-)
I bought me some ground round yesterday that was 96/4!

It looks lovely and I plan to use the foreman grill for it!

You can get quite lean cuts of beef, I got an eye of round roast the other
day, I had never cooked one as a roast so went Googling and settled on this
recipe:

PEPPERED ROAST BEEF

5 pounds beef eye of round
3 garlic cloves -- slivered
black pepper -- coarsely ground

Heat oven to 500º. With a sharp, pointed knife make inch-deep incisions all
over roast; insert garlic slivers in slits so that they disappear into the
meat. Sprinkle meat all over with the pepper and place fat side up in a
roasting pan. Roast meat, allowing 7 minutes per pound for medium-rare.
Turn off heat and leave roast in oven 2 hours longer WITHOUT OPENING OVEN
DOOR. Finished roast will be brown and crisp on the outside and pink
throughout the inside. Serve warm or chill several hours. Cut in very thin
slices to serve.

The garlic didn't sound all that good to me so instead I just used the
pepper (put some peppercorns in my blender for a bit) and Spike seasoning on
the outside. Then I followed the strange cooking directions and it worked
very well. We ate some when I first made it and have been working on the
rest since. It does slice a bit easier when it has been in the fridge.
Some of the juice comes out and is in the pan when it's done, you want to
pour a bit of it on the sliced meat to get the full flavor. It was a little
on the tough side, but not bad. There's a bit of fat on the outside of the
roast but no marbling so it would be very easy to avoid fat with this.
