What's your logic for staying on Induction for so long?

Did you read the book?

Did you read the question? The question was about your logic
not your justification.

Dr. Atkins said you can stay on it for much longer than 2 weeks.

With a list of qualifiers. One of them is "is it still working". For
you
it has been. But have you noticed the 6 month limit? You're half
way there. You aren't in any sort of trouble now but you are
definitely headed that way. Better handle it now long before the
crash.

Was your logic "If low carb is good lower must be better"? It is
not true you know. Doesn't matter that it sounds obvious. Eating
more veggies helps in th elong term.

Was your logic "Deal with the weight now, and do it in such a way
that I fail to prepare for maintenance and therefore risk it all after
the lost happens"? It certainly looks to me like that's your logic.

Staying on Induction fails to prepare for the Maintenance phase.
To fail to prepare is to prepare to fail. So what's your preparation
plan? I bet you don't want to lose it all then not be prepared to
keep it off so you end up gaining it all back. No one *wants* to
do that. But if you fail to prepare that's the road you're headed
down.

A couple of comments about setting relaistic goal weights based on
your height:

1) Look yourself up in a life insurance table. They run 10 pounds
too low so add 10. That's a very easy way to set your target.

2) The book Protein Power by Drs Eades has a chapter of
instructions on how to take measurements and figure out your
lean body mass, body fat percentage and such. One of the numbers
is your ideal weight range. Get the book (new, used, library,
whatever) and run through that chapter doing the measurements
and arithmatic.

Then start preparing for maintenance. By not being on Induction
any more. Please don't treat Atkins as a fad diet with only one
phase. Use it as a way of customizing your food for life.

This Sunday will be 3 full months on Atkins induction. I've gone from about
175 to 148.2. (5'6", 29 year old male). My BMI is in the normal range, my
waist is 32". However, I'd like to get rid of my love handles completely.
How much more weight should I lose? My original goal was 145 but the more I
look at myself I'd like to lose more and get tighter. I was thinking no less
than 140.

It sounds to me that your height and weight are just fine. The love
handles can probably be helped with exercise, but if you lose much more
weight, you may start to look gaunt in other places.

How about working on your attitude as well? You ask a question and people
take time out to try to help; why act like a dik?

Your spelling is indeed top-notch. Mine isn't, but in this case I chose to
keep it a little clean by not spelling out cuss words.

That's exactly what I was trying to tell him. He's never going to be tall
and thin. Be happy with being fit at your height.
