If someone did see that other POPCORN thread that where you got to
talking
about the AB method for making popcorn, it is quite easy to see why, a LC
ng, one might comment about a discussion of the use of a corn product
(corn
on the cob, HFCS, cornbread, etc.). Knowing you as I do, it made perfect
sense to me, but for someone who knows nothing about you, I'm sure you
can
imagine how it might sound a little off. Popcorn is not on the
recommended
LC food list.

Well, that is true. I don't plan on eating popcorn very often, and
honestly I haven't eaten it in so long I can't remember when I ate it the
last time. However, I don't think that an occasional foray into some
popcorn is going to make anyone fat -- at least, that's not how I got
fat. The 400-500 grams of pasta and brown rice I used to eat every day
and extremely low fat level I used to eat is what made me fat, along with
living with someone for years who loves ice cream and beer.

I guess it's a YMMV thing. Popcorn has a relatively low glycemic index, and
doesn't impact my BG any more than the low-carb foods that I eat. My FBG is
about 89, and it goes up to only around 97 after eating popcorn. This would
be normal even for a non-diabetic person!

Peter,
How much popcorn do you eat at one sitting? And do you use oil popped or
air? Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Ice cream....that made me fat (well, eating too much of it).

I tried Alton Brown's popcorn recipe, which is basically taking popcorn
kernels and putting them in a paper bag closed with two staples, and then
microwaving until about 5 seconds separate pops.

snip

This is a large bowl
of popcorn and way high on the carb content. I don't see why you can't
halve the recipe.

I don't see how he can use metal staples in a microwave?

And yeah, halve the recipe. Should be fine :-)

I eat popcorn only one in a while; when I do I usually use a bag of
microwave popcorn and split it with someone so I eat about half. The sodium
concerns me more than anything and it is this that keeps me from eating it
more often. I can't believe how much salt they add to microwave popcorn!

Don't they make reduced salt microwave popcorn?
