No burst of new years resolution dieters this year?

I think the low-carb fad is over. Most people I know have given it up. They
just got tired of it they said. Some came Jan 1st they either didn't bother
or maybe are trying some other diet.

It never was a fad to many people, for those it's a WOL. How many is "most"
people you know?

Since I eventually want some carbs back, I'm doing South Beach and enjoying
both the foods and the absence of hunger. Sometimes, however, I have trouble
with the fat restrictions, such as with mascarpone or the occasional desire for
butter in sugar-free deserts.

It never was a fad to many people, for those it's a WOL. How many is
"most" people you know?

3 of the 5 gals and 1 guy at the office. The other 2 gals are normal weight.
Both neighbors gave up low-carbing a few years back. I know it's a WOL life
for some. That's great, but a lot of folks get tired of it after a few
years. One gal at the office was on Atkins for at least 6 yrs, and finally
had to give it up.

If our Western diet were intrinsically low-carb, people would find it quite
natural to eat that way. But, what these diets usually fail to recognize is the
role of food as culture. Bottom line, we don't merely eat the most efficient
food for our bodies to process; we eat partially for pleasure as well. I'm
enjoying South Beach because I'm settling in with different foods. But, I'm
also glad to know that high fiber and unprocessed carbs will reappear in a
month. I simply couldn't give them up. However, with fasting glucose last
checked at 146, I know I can't eat carbs with every meal as I always did. For
me, carbs are going to have to take a back seat as special treats.

Why not? Was it just not right for your body chemistry and what you needed from
a diet?
