Aw, I'm happy to hear that! I'm inspired by all of you (well, maybe not
all) and I've learned so much from this group. Glad I could give a teeny
bit back.

You've given a lot back, at least to me. I'm very grateful.

Low carb can stop the physical cravings.

But the psychological and habit formed cravings have to be dealt with on
your own.

It's like the Nicorette gum. It can stop the physical need for
nicotine... but the psychological and habit formed needs, have to be
changed too.

On the way to the fireworks, we passed a gas station that sells Mel-O-Cream
doughnuts. I was so grateful not to have any cash with me. Then I started
craving cookies. Like, my entire body went tense. I really wanted
cookies! We went to WalMart after the fireworks and passed the evil
mini-cupcakes with an inch of icing on them. They called out to me.

I came home with a couple tubs of plain yogurt and had a 1/2 cup serving,
washed down with some diet A&W.

I know that low-carb is supposed to stop cravings, but it doesn't seem to
work that way for me. I'm assuming that this is something I'll have to
fight forever. Just have to keep a Plan B (like yogurt) in mind.

I'm proud of myself for not caving. :-)

Yup, while growing up, I learned to depend on comfort foods to briefly feel
better, and we had a lot of family traditions involving food. It's time
for Crash and me to create our own traditions.

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Em! The popcorn had an
association for me, and it snowballed from there. We rarely bought
doughnuts when we filled the gas tank. We went to the gas station
specifically for doughnuts.

This is one of the wonderful things about this group. So many people, with
so many views of situations. Em, I think you've really helped me out here.
I'm pretty sure I can psyche myself out of the snowball effect, now that I
know what's causing it. Knowledge is power. You can't fight your demons
unless you really know what they are.

BTW, I'm proud of you for not caving, too!

smile Thank you!

I figured out a demon for me. It shoulda sank in by now, but hey better late
than never.

Its Mountain Dew. I love the stuff. I cannot at all, anymore at all, period...
Drink just a sip of it. I did over the weekend, with the holiday and being out
and having fun with the boys. I had at least 4 of them. The sugar and caffeine
amount on them is so ridiculous. It set off a trigger/crave again. Then went on
into part of the weekend. I stopped the addiction again. Been dealing with the
headaches, like back in induction. Almost 2 days now, Mountain Dew free.

It wasn't worth it, not one bit. My kidneys and bladder cannot handle the crap
any longer. I had bladder spasms again, havn't had them since beginning low
carb. With the other junk food I ate at the fireworks.. bloating, gas and
constipation.

You did very very well on not falling into the cravings, the temptations. Very
proud of you!

Water, water and more water for me. I have given up the coffee again too. I did
have one crystal light drink today.

I feel stronger though, and more determined to stick to it. Its a journey for
sure.

I haven't tried Debbie Cusick's pumpkin custard
yet, but I'm hoping to use it as a substitute for pumpkin pie at
Thanksgiving.

I am going to have to give that try too. I love pumpkin pie. Then my oldest son
turns 18 on Thanksgiving this year.

I have a hard time with birthdays, and also holidays.

Well said Jennifer. I readdicted myself to Mt. Dew again over the weekend.
Finding ways to better deal with the psychological and habit formed cravings.
Yep, just got to deal with it on your own. Mine is cold turkey again, drinking
lots of water, flushing the system out.

Yet more than several times today, the can of Mt. Dew has entered my brain,
then set me to thinking on going after another. It is a addiction, and does
mess with the head. I go drink more water. I eat a grape or two also, seems to
help some.

Unfortunately, I also did that, to my youngest son. Gave him comfort food.
Thats why he became so overweight. It was to do with his learning
disabilities.. Trying to figure that one out still. Like when he was picked on,
or when he felt such frustration with learning, depression too...Thats when
food became a comfort food for him. Me too in ways.

I like that alot, how you put it Carol. Making your own traditions.

Never thought either on this LC journey. That my sons and I would all change so
much, views on foods. Breaking traditions that aren't good, breaking
addictions. Healing and growing together.

Carol,

Thanks, George. I should have brought a big bottle of water when we went
out last night. I'll try to do that for future excursions.

We went to a friend's house and I took my "cup" I found a cup at Walmart.
It is 64 ounces and on the outside it gives a whole bunch of facts about
water and why your body needs it. I figure if I fill that up in the morning
with water and can drink most or all of it by the end of the day - I am
doing good. Great way to measure my minimum water for the day. If I work
hard - I can usually finish my cup. I took that with me to the BBQ
yesterday. Drank almost all of it. Ate brisket, coleslaw, veggies and
ranch dip from a relish tray, some strawberries, and a hotdog with a bun and
a thin slice of chocolate creme cake. I figured it had about 100 calories
and about 13 carbs based on the label on the container. I figure the bun
and the cake were the majority of my carbs for the whole day unless you
count the smoke from the sparklers we did later.
