Default Low Carb Nexus Store and Web Site Closing... Farewell!

Well, the time has come... the changes in the Low Carb industry are
forcing us to close our doors at the Low Carb Nexus. Thanks so much
to all you guys that have supported us through the years! It has been
a wild five year ride! For details, to those that are interested,
here's a link with our reasons:

Next time you want to open a low carb store, think "butcher shop".

Damn Bill, I'm sorry to see the end of it for you and Belinda. I
remember how excited you were when you first started the web based
store, and again when you got a brick and mortar establishment. The
years have flown by.
I do hope you've got a new adventure planned, and wish you the best of
luck in the future.

Take care,
Carmen

Bill,

Sorry to hear about this. Just curious: have you approached any
of the larger vendors to see if they're interested in buying you out?

I went into a low carb store when it first opened in the mall near us.
All I saw there were shelves of pills, powders, supplements and nutritional
bars. I was hoping that it would have had organic vegetables and meats.
I've never tried any of those low carb fake foods. Most people I know
don't eat them either. When I first started this WOE, I bought a small box
of Splenda to replace the sugar in my coffee. It had a strange unlikable
taste, so I drank my coffee with only cream. The box still sits in the
cupboard. All of the other low carb stuff like pastas and bread were way too
expensive, so I'm sticking with meat and vegetables.
I noticed that our local Walmart had a half price sale on all that
stuff a few months ago. Both Super Store and Walmart have reduced the amount
of this stuff on their shelves. Some may see this as a slow down in the
"lo-carb fad", but I think that most people that have tried this stuff don't
really like it and are sticking with real food. The confusing carb counts on
the labels put me off as well. It all kind of reminds me of when we were all
supposed to eat low fat. We switched to margarine because it was better for
you. Now they say margarine is closer in molecular structure to plastic than
food. The food industry is far more concerned with making money than making
sure we have a proper meal. I guess these are all the reasons I don't buy
"Atkins Approved" stuff.
To bad about your business Bill. Hopefully you will find something else
that will do well.

We have had the store up for sale, but no takers. We were "done in"
by all the grocery stores and the Wal-Mart's (large) vendors selling
low carb foods. The shame of it is the "new" low carb foods that
inject fiber artificially and even have sugar (fructose, etc.) in them
that the larger stores are selling as "low carb." Our sales fell 80%
since January... the "big guys" just creamed us "little guys." But,
that is the way capitalism works... supply and demand. I have no
regrets over all. You guys be blessed!

Dr. Bill (and Belinda) ...

George Machen here.

You already know how depressed we were when the High Point, NC store
went away, and now we're losing the Greensboro, NC store and the Low
Carb Nexus e-commerce web site, too.

A sad day for all your customers!

We wish you the best of luck in your future ventures.
