Default A Successful Day

This almost turned into a cheat/binge day. We went to see fireworks, and
my first thought was, "We should bring some popcorn!" Then I remembered.
On the way to the fireworks, we passed a gas station that sells Mel-O-Cream
doughnuts. I was so grateful not to have any cash with me. Then I started
craving cookies. Like, my entire body went tense. I really wanted
cookies! We went to WalMart after the fireworks and passed the evil
mini-cupcakes with an inch of icing on them. They called out to me.

I came home with a couple tubs of plain yogurt and had a 1/2 cup serving,
washed down with some diet A&W.

I know that low-carb is supposed to stop cravings, but it doesn't seem to
work that way for me. I'm assuming that this is something I'll have to
fight forever. Just have to keep a Plan B (like yogurt) in mind.

I'm proud of myself for not caving. :-)

Carol you're good!

May be you were a bit hungry after trekkking around to see fireworks and etc.,
so you have done well in resisting temptations even when you were hungry. Well
done!

Maybe it's not so much actual craving as it is association? Watching
fireworks - eating popcorn. Getting gas - buying doughnuts. It sounds like
when I quit smoking. It was SO hard! Even when the cravings weren't so
bad, there were the associations. Couldn't have a cup of coffee without a
cigarette, couldn't get into my car without lighting up a cigarette, first
thing I'd reach for when the phone rang wasn't the phone, it was my
cigarettes! I think it's the same thing with food for me now. Not so much
cravings but association. I CAN go shopping without stopping for coffee and
a doughnut. I'm hating having to lose weight after being underweight most
of my life but I'm SO glad I don't smoke anymore! Quitting was the hardest
thing I've ever had to do in my life.

BTW, I'm proud of you for not caving, too!

Carol,
I have found that when I feel I am craving something rather than just
being hungry, I chug a bunch of water. Especially if it is good water,
bottled or otherwise. It works for me!

Thanks, Ada! We stayed in the car for the fireworks. You can see them
from much of the town. I brought a can of diet root beer with me, which
helped a little.

It does feel good to leave those things at the store. :-)

I think you've hit the nail on the head, Em! The popcorn had an
association for me, and it snowballed from there. We rarely bought
doughnuts when we filled the gas tank. We went to the gas station
specifically for doughnuts.

This is one of the wonderful things about this group. So many people, with
so many views of situations. Em, I think you've really helped me out here.
I'm pretty sure I can psyche myself out of the snowball effect, now that I
know what's causing it. Knowledge is power. You can't fight your demons
unless you really know what they are.

BTW, I'm proud of you for not caving, too!

smile Thank you!

Aw, I'm happy to hear that! I'm inspired by all of you (well, maybe not
all) and I've learned so much from this group. Glad I could give a teeny
bit back.

Not always. Last night I had a 1/3 pound burger made from quite lean beef,
and a tablespoon of butter on my green beans. 4 scrambled eggs for
breakfast.

I literally slept most of yesterday, so I only had time for those two
meals. Oh, the yogurt before bed, too. I was awake for a total of 8 hours
yesterday, and then slept for 10 more last night. I'm wondering if I'm
getting sick. But yes, I should have had more fat yesterday.

I think I will be, too, now that Em has pointed out the real reason I felt
compelled to eat carbs. I haven't tried Debbie Cusick's pumpkin custard
yet, but I'm hoping to use it as a substitute for pumpkin pie at
Thanksgiving.

Thanks, George. I should have brought a big bottle of water when we went
out last night. I'll try to do that for future excursions.
