Default VH1's How Thin is Too Thin?

I'm wondering if anyone else saw this show. I've been watching and it
thoroughly supports what I've said about stars; that they'll do
anything to be thin, and mostly not healthy things.

Someone said earlier that star know better and he doubted they'd do
anything unhealthy. Well, that wasn't correct.

As someone said "They don't care if they die of starvation, get heart
attacks or cancer, if they look good on the Red Carpet, that's all that
matters."

The show features nutritionists, jounalists, etc about all the abuse
stars give their bodies just to be thin. Over exercising, diet pills,
smoking, drugs, surgery, starvation, fad diets colonics (Patricia
Heaton, who also starved herself to be thin, got 10 colonics in one
day! just to lose weight.) The exception to the rule are those who do
it in a healthy manner; they are in the minority.

There is no limit to what these women will do to be as thin as they
possibly can. They say they don't get roles if they aren't literally,
skin and bones.

It's all pretty digusting to me.

Sounds like an interesting show. I'll have to look to see if it's
going to be on again and TiVo it if so.

Am I the only one who thinks Jennifer Aniston used to be a lot cuter
before she lost so much weight? Her face looks gaunt to me now.
Tonight in the gym I was watching an old "Friends" re-run and thinking
how much better she looked then.

I don't watch much TV (mostly at the gym while doing cardio) so I can't
comment on either VH1 or Friends. But I saw something at the gym last night
that I am still attempting to process. There was a woman there who was quite
thin and had some muscular definition but it wasn't at all attractive to me.
I'm trying to decide if it was because she didn't have enough muscle or if
her bodyfat was just too low.

I don't watch friends, so I don't know. But I do know that most women,
heck, most people look good when they are not emaciated.

I live in the gay community in South Africa, a country with the
greatest number of HIV positive people. I *know* the 25% proportion
of South Africans (the representative number in my life anyway) who
are HIV positive. Or I have known them. There comes a time when
one looks at someone and one knows that this thin is too thin and a
sadness washes over one. I'm sure there are people who deliberately
diet until they look like that, and whatever the cause of that thin
may be, it saddens me.

Yes, I agree about JA as well as Cortney Cox too. She was much better
looking when she wasn't so thin. out of the 2 of them, CC looks worse with
her weight loss than JA does.

Pretty digusting - yes. But - unfortunately its the general public's
perception of women that perpetuates this thinness. When your livelihood
depends on what your body looks like, you will do whatever it takes to pay
the bills. Once you are accustomed to the million dollar lifestyle, its
not easy to go get a real job and live like you and I do.

Granted - you'd think these people could do it healthy. Afterall, they've
got the money to have their own personal chef and trainer and they generally
have the free time for the workouts and whatnot.

On a similar topic - did anyone catch last nights episode of Extreme
Makeover?

I caught a few minutes while channel surfing. Woman was due to get lipo,
etc. Doctor said that she was actually too heavy for the surgery and told
her she needed to lose at least 35 - 40lbs before he would agree to the
surgery. Too many other health risks involved. Her start weight was about
185lbs (iirc)

So - they show a glimps of her next 3 weeks at the mansion. She was on a
strict diet of 1200 cals per day. I believe each meal was something like
12g lean grilled protein, 1 cup veggies and then 2 cups fruit per day.
She had a trainer that worked with her - she did 3 hours of cardio every
day. (in 1 hr increments) plus weights (very small ones - adn the routine
looked more like weighted cardio). 7 days a week. No rest.

After 3 weeks of this routine she had lost 20lbs. The doctor came in to
see her progress. She was down to 165lbs, only 20lbs lighter (but 39"
smaller due to the weight loss).

The doctor first commented that he told her he would not do the surgery
until she lost at least 35 to 40lbs, and he really preferred the 40lb mark.
But, in the end, he gave in and did the surgery even though she only lost
1/2 the weight they wanted her to.

The lipo and surgery took off another 20lbs of fat - leaving her as a 145lb
size 8.

Now - that really discussed me. To have a doctor agree to do the surgery,
dispite the medical risks involved because this woman did not lose the
weight he wanted her to. Stupid!

But that's what that show is!

If I'm going to watch silly, I'll stick to Reno 911, the funniest show
on tv.

I caught the show during a commercial break for CSI. But after CSI was
"Without A Trace" which was quite intersting. THe missing girl was the
product of one of these makeover reality show. She went thru the makeover
in order to be "happy" in life. Only to find after all was said and done,
she still was not happy. She still did not have her mother's acceptance,
still could not attract the attention of the guy she'd wanted forever and
still could not find happiness. So, she went ran away to find another
doctor to "undo" some of the surgeries and try to put her back to her old
self.

Boobjobs, lipo, and mass amounts of weight loss do not fix the phsycological
self esteem issues that many people have and that will not buy happiness
either.

If I'm going to watch silly, I'll stick to Reno 911, the funniest show
on tv.

Never heard of it - so I haven't seen it.
