Food & Exercise -- 9/23-24/2006 (Saturday & Sunday)
Doing a bit of catching up he
Saturday, 9/23: Went to my hip-hop class in the morning, then just did a few things around the house until it was time to head downtown for the big fall wine dinner. We checked into the hotel around 5:30, in time to get dressed up for the 6:30 event, which was just across the street. It lasted until just before midnight :-). It was a beautiful evening and we spent the first hour or so on the terrace with champage and passed hors d'oeuvres, then went inside for a 7-course meal. I ate a fair bit, but the servings were moderate -- and I wasn't making any attempt to diet. I did make a serious effort to moderate the wine consumption, though, as I've overdone it at some such events in the past. I was very happy with how that worked out. I figure I consumed about 12 oz. total -- just sipped a bit of champagne at the beginning and then asked the server to just pour me an ounce or so of each wine that was served -- and didn't always finish that. There were 15 wines served in total, and the average pours were about 3 ounces, so one could get very drunk :-). For me, 12 oz. over 5 1/2 hours is easily manageable. (I probably drank less than anyone else there, including my friend's 84-year-old, 110 lb. mother who was sitting next to me :-).) Anyway... Food: * 8:00 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices melted f/f cheese & 10g grated grana padano * 1:00 (home): 4 oz. ground turkey breast burger on whole wheat hamburger bun w/ 3 slices melted f/f cheese, dill pickle slices, & catsup * 6:30 -- 12:00 (wine dinner): 12 oz. wine; 9 passed hors d'oeuvres (2 deviled egg halves, 3 apple fritters in champagne dipping sauce, 4 tiny potato blini w/ caviar & sour cream); 1 cup lobster bisque; 1 crab & shrimp fritter in an onion & tomato sauce; 2 oz. rabbit & sweetbreads confit w/ arugula and a fried green tomato slice; tiny cup of grapefruit-tarragon sorbet; 2 oz. duck breast w/ 1 oz. foie gras, w/ a cherry glaze, & 2 oz. succotash; 1 oz. lamb chop in a red wine reduction, w/ a few bites of rice & swiss chard; white chocolate, blue cheese, & spiced pecans in phyllo w/ apricot puree (one of the best desserts I've ever tasted) Totals: 2175 calories (208 from alcohol), 61g fat (25%), 192g carbs (35%), 150g protein (28%) Averages for the week: 1545 calories, 25% fat, 36% carbs, 37%) protein Exercise: 1 hour hip-hop cardio class Sunday, 9/24: Left the hotel about 8:30 to head back home. Just hung out at home all day. Skipped my usual morning run as it was raining -- though I don't know that I'd have felt like going out anyway by the time I got home. Food: * 8:00 (hotel room -- a freebie from bedside table): 2 oreo cookies * 10:30 (home): 2 poached eggs on 1 slice whole wheat toast w/ 3 slices melted f/f cheese & 10g grated grana padano * 2:00 (home): 4 oz. ground turkey breast burger on whole wheat hamburger bun w/ 3 slices melted f/f cheese & catsup * 8:00 (home): 250g f/f Greek yogurt w/ 100g fresh mango & 45g All Bran bran buds Totals: 1044 calories, 23g fat (20%), 116g carbs (44%), 111g protein (43%) {Wasn't too hungry after the Saturday night dinner.) Exercise: None Chris 262/130s/130s started dieting July 2002, maintaining since June 2004 |
