I am the same way.... I want to sleep in as late as I can. I am lucky that
I usually get to work at 9-9:30, but could be there until as late as 7-8 pm.

PG, I could do the treadmill in the morning, but I value my sleep as much

as
possible and find exercising in the evenings better than mornings.

Although
when spring roles around and the cold weather leaves us I might get myself
up and do some walking. Thanks for the support on finding work.

Hey Paul,

That is great about the continued weight loss! Could you find a

treadmill
to walk on in the mornings before working? Why couldn't you walk

before
work for 30 mins? I'll cross my fingers for you on the job

prospects!!
Unfortunately, in this society, it should be easier for you to find a

job
at
the weight you are at now compared to 300 lbs. There is so much fat
discrimination going around.

You're right about the discrimination, PG. But you have to look at it

from
the employer's view, too. Obesity often comes with higher health care
costs and in today's economy employers are trying to keep this down.

I already have health insurance through my wife's work. I had a phone
interview with IBM last Friday and the job didn't even have ANY benefits.
They haven't even seen me yet so I know they aren't discriminating me. My
wife work's at American Airlines and after 911 the insurance costs went

way
up. Anyway a friend of mine is in contact with me almost daily and trying
to get me a job with his company. Not only that he would be my boss and
that's great news for me. I don't think my weight is an issue anymore,

but
instead I think my disability is frowned upon as well as being out of work
for 2.5 years. I'm not really worried cause I know the Man upstairs is
looking out for me and I have a great wife and kids.

Good luck with the job search. I work in the airline business as well, so I
know all about rising health costs. It's a tough business right now. I wish
you and your wife the best of luck. : )

I'm surprised the IBM position doesn't have any benefits. They used to be
one of the best places to work in the IT world.

A friend is exactly how I landed my current job when I lost my previous one.
Hope this works out for you.

Paul, you spoke of an accident. What happened??? In a later post, you said
you had a disability (I assume, from the accident). What is that? Sorry, if
I'm being nosey, but I'm just curious to know what you're up against. Tech
market is tough here, too, but things seem to be turning around for the
good. Sure hope you get that job where your friend would be your boss.

Hi Cat,

I was in a flying accident back in July 2001 and when I hit the ground I
broke my left leg below the knee and broke my right foot as well as received
a hole in my foot from a rod that went through my shoe into my foot. Lucky
to still be alive, I spent the next five months in bed with my legs up
followed by another year or so in therapy and operations. My leg didn't
heal properly and they had to do an osteotomy where they basically rebroke
the leg and set it with an external fixator. That's where they have these
halos around the leg with pins going into the skin and then into the bone.
I've had two of these in the last two and a half years. They took some skin
from my thigh and put it on my right foot to cover the foot.

As you can guess I gained weight being in bed all that time. I was
overweight even when I had my accident, but gained more afterwards. I
slowly progressed back to walking by first using a wheelchair to get around,
then a walker to help me walk again, then a cane to get off the walker, and
now I get around without any aid.

I had gotten to three hundred pounds and felt like I had to lose weight or
I might die. My feet and left knee were killing me and I wasn't happy at
all the way I was feeling. I visited a dietician to get some help and only
had to visit her once to figure out what I needed to do to lose weight. She
gave me sheet of paper with foods and portions she wanted me to eat. I
thought to myself that if I was able to survive on what she had listed then
I was eating way to much on my own. I also knew that I had always ate too
much of the wrong types of foods and ate fast food too often.

Today I eat good healthy foods, better portions. I eat baked chicken,
vegetables, fruits, and cutout a lot of breads that I use to eat. I have
totally cutout fried foods, burgers, fries, and things I use to eat often.
I still have pizza for a treat every couple weeks, but eat vegetable pizza
without all that meat, and eat a few slices versus the whole thing. I'm
also exercising regularly, currently walking three to four miles a day at
least five days a week, and using a stairmaster at least five times a week,
sometimes more for an hour a day.

I deal with pain everyday in my knee and feet, which is most of my
disability. I also can't bend my left leg a complete 90 degrees, which
makes bending at the knees virtually impossible. My doctor said no climbing
ladders, bending at the knees, or standing more than two hours on my feet.
I have about forty-five pounds to lose to reach my goal weight, which is
lighter than when I was in high school, so I'm excited to reach my goal.

Wow, I've written a book. I hope all is going well with your weight loss
or maintenance,

Paul

Not an airplane like most people think. It's called a trike, which is
considered an ultralight plane by the FAA. You can see them all over the
web, just type in ultralight trike. They are modified hang gliders where
you sit in a cart with motor and prop vs. running off the side of a
mountain, which we don't have muck of here in N. Texas.

Thanks Ig...I really have come a long way since July 2001.

Was it airplane flying? You were able to accomplish a lot given your
condition Paul.
