Ralph,

You can add lemon to water to give it some tang. You can brew a decaf tea
and let it cool for later consumption. Or something other dietary treatment
to unbland water, which IS bland!!!

A member of mind suggested two years ago to add cucumber slices to your
water.. it's YUMMY !!!

I alternate that with lemon.. makes it less boring !

This is a nice way to start my U.S. trip which begins today.... All I
lost
was 0.2 kg (0.4 lb), but it brought my total weight loss so far to
over 75
lb and... yes... my weight into the "hundreds"! Yay!

(The first time I got on the scale it showed a loss of 0.4 kg, but the
next
two times it was just a loss of 0.2 kg, so I'm going to be
conservative and
report the smaller weight loss.)

My average daily calories came to 1666 calories/day, about 40
calories/day
more than last week. Since I lost 0.4 lb this week this means my CPP
(calories per pound per day needed to maintain weight) was 9.4, which
is a
bit lower than my average CPP.

My "rolling 4 week average" decreased slightly to 1.1 lb/week.

You can see my latest weight loss graph at
http://lerner.net/diet/weight20060505.jpg

The latest stats:

* Week 48 / Day 336
* This week's loss: 0.2 kg = 0.4 lb
* Weight (kg): 125.0 - 90.8 (minus 34.2 kg)
* Weight (lb): 275.0 - 199.8 (minus 75.2 lb) MILESTONE! In the
Hundreds!
* BMI: 41.3 - 30.0 (just one more tick to go from "obesity" into
"overweight"!)
* Percent body mass lost: 27.4%
* Percent complete to goal: 74%

My next goal is to get into the 80s in kg. Maybe by the time I get
back?

Congratulations! You have earned this.

Default Week 48 report - Major Milestone: in the "Hundreds"!

Thanks for your messages, people! I safely arrived in St. Louis and I'm
at my friend's house. It turns out she has "Healthy Choice" stuff in
her freezer, so I just heated up a "whiskey steak and potatoes" meal
for 290 calories (pretty good) for a late evening supper and everything
is well well within calorie budget since leaving my house yesterday,
even after splurging on "zaru tenpura" (650 calories) for lunch with
the friend who is watching Tao for me while I'm gone.

While waiting for my plane at the airport lounge I passed over a
heaping bowl of kit-kats (why would they put those there?!) and opted
for a small melon bowl instead, and some diet coke. There were all
these traveling Americans with huge guts pouring themselves mug after
mug of free-flowing beer on tap. Fortunately I rarely drink, even when
not dieting, so that has never been a problem for me.

Anyway, the economy seat was very comfortable with lots of room to
spare on all sides. And I had one of those seats with nothing in front
of me, so I was even able to stretch out my legs.

I think I'm looking pretty good (I'll post a photo I got somebody to
take of me at Chicago airport), but there were two instances that would
drive any serious dieter crazy:

1. The man across the aisle from me was a friendly, sort of garrulous,
retired military person who likes traveling around. We got to talking
about his diabetes and I said a pre-diabetes scare is one thing that
shocked me into starting my diet and that I've lost over 75 lb so far.
He said, "Looks like you still have to lose some more."

I know I'm still overweight, but my self-image is pretty good these
days and tried not to be defensive and just answered, "Well, I've gone
down from 275 last June to about 199 lb now, and am still trying."

Now this guy is really paunchy, with a big hanging gut, and says, "I'm
surprised. I didn't think you weighed less than me and I'm 220. Been
220 for years now..."

OK. So I assumed he was being a little self-deceptive about what *he*
looked like and we wished each other a nice trip and parted ways at
immigration.

2. So then I cleared customs and had to recheck my bag for the St.
Louis flight and went on line at the recheck area. When I got to the
front of the line the airline man who was guiding people turns to me
and says, "Counter 1, big guy."

WHAT?!?!?!?!

What is this "big guy" stuff?!?!

I just sighed and laughed. I felt like I was on "candid camera" where
they were trying their best to upset a dieter.

doug,

A lot of folks talk without thinking. You should've replied "Si! Gracias,
el burro muy grande. Gracias!" nodding with a genuine smile. Loosely
translated: "Yes! Thanks, big ass. Thanks!" He probably would've thought
it a compliment. LOL!

It's been my experience that the term "big guy" is not necessarily size
related but some kind of generic term meant to be friendly in a John Wayne
sort of way. It still sounds totally bizarre in any circumstance for an
airline employee to refer to *anyone* that way though.

AAAaaaawww I thought "Big guy" related more to tall men than overweight
ones.. but what do I know I'm french Canadian.. ;o)

People will say things like that.. let it slide... you know how far you've
come, so do we !

will~
