Default Question for the "older" ladies

I'm posting this question for my mother, who is 61. She's been doing
this WW journey with me and has lost 26 pounds so far, and is quite
pleased with it. She's been experiencing something unusual (for her)
and is wondering if any of the other "older" ladies have had similar
experiences:

She had a relatively mild menopause - very mild actually. However now
that she's losing weight, NOW she's getting the hot flashes and chills.
Mostly hot flashes. We're wondering if this is due to the weight loss
and exercise kick-starting those hormones. Has anyone else had similar
experiences?

Thanks,

Amberle3

Default Question for the "older" ladies

Hi Amberle! I'm 65 and am past menopause. The chills are probably due to
the weight loss, but I suspect the hot flashes are simply the menopause
going into high gear and probably not caused by being OP. I get so cold
sometimes that I have to go to bed with a hot water bottle & it takes a
long time for me to get warmed up - I sure wish my hubby would warm me up,
but he can't stand "cold" chicks ;-D

Default Question for the "older" ladies

I'm not sure if it's relevant but fat is great at holding onto oestrogen, so
it would make sense to me that losing the fat would 'liberate' that
oestrogen maybe.

I know my periods have been really wierd while I've been losing weight and
have put it down to the extra hormones circulating.

You're right Jane. I remember my family doctor telling me that when I was having
some problems. He said the same thing that the fat liberated the estrogren into
the bloodstream & it would take a while for it to settle down.

Default Question for the "older" ladies

okay, I know this one because I am a nurse. Fat produces estrogen. It also
stores extra estrogens. Hot flashes are usually actually due to falling
progesterone levels, but falling estrogen levels can also do it. The
shifting of fat tissue can free up extra, and then there might be a drop in
levels after that, that could cause some. I have had a few myself. It
passes. I have a progesterone cream that I use for a day or two when it
happens and that usually takes care of it.
