Frankenfoods are Winning
In the financial news, a certain notorious fast food giant has increased
sales in the last 13 months by 8% in the US, and even more in their overseas operations. I predict that in a few years, when statistics come out, they will show that the obesity epidemic got worse in 2007. So, as a long term financial investment, should you buy stocks of companies that sell food with trans fats, or stocks of health related companies that profit from illness? |

"U.S. same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least 13 months, rose 4.4%. McDonald's attributed the gain to its premium coffee offerings and breakfast selections, as well as its dollar menu." I don't quite know why McDonald's would be notorious. Certainly the Carls Jr/Hardees would be more upsetting to the healthy eating crowd with an 1100 calorie 66 gms of fat burger. I guess it is due to the idiot who got famous for "supersize me" |

I certainly would be a contributor there...eating their premium coffee, sausages, and salads (I use my own dressing). Nothing else they sell is of interest to me. In the wrong hands, sausages and scrambled eggs can be Frankenfoods too. There was a pre-cooked mini sausage I used to buy for my dog, until they added MSG. It is frustrating to have to read the same ingredient labels over and over watching for the creative changes. |

You mean size makes them a target....otherwise, they are no worse than any of the others. In fact, in some ways, they are better from a LCing POV. Certainly the Carls Jr/Hardees would be more upsetting to the healthy eating crowd with an 1100 calorie 66 gms of fat burger. At least they come as a lettuce wrap. Chuckle. |
