Question for the overweight
Would you be in favor of a tax on fat people for the billions of dollars
they cost society due to their slothful gluttony? That's only fair. HTH S*nort |

Question for the overweight
Absolutely! And while we are at it, let's tax other health care burdens as
well. I think we should add an extra tax to anyone who has a family history of heart disease or diabetes as a genetic connection is clearly demonstrated in research. Also, people with red hair bleed more freely than those without so all natural red heads should pay a special tax to support the blood banks. Everyone knows that only women get certain types of cancer so we should impose a gynecological tax on women. On the other hand, only men get prostate cancer so let's levy a prostate tax for men. Since Gays get HIV more frequently than heterosexual folks, there should definitely be a Gay tax. Anyone with more than three speeding tickets should be taxed because they are more likely to cause auto accidents. Good Idea - just don't stop there. "DeepFried" wrote in message ... Question for the overweight
I assume you are being sarcastic. The point you miss is that these
overweight people CHOOSE to stuff their gaping maws with far more food than they should. That doesn't apply to any of your examples, except the speeding ticket one. Of course, there already is a penalty for accruing speeding tickets in the form of higher insurance rates. HTH S*nort On Fri, 5 Dec 2003, "Julianne" wrote: Absolutely! Just like all the taxes they put on cigarrettes do so much good? Well, they certainly deter the hell out of me. I gave up because I decided that if I didn't that's where ALL my disposable income would go. I realise not everyone feels this way, but if a few lives are saved that justifies the policy. CLUE - Any time a politician tells you a tax is a deterrent to poor behavior, they have another poor behavior they want to fund. Doubtless, but there have to be some taxes somewhere. And taxes which aim to deter poor behaviour seem juster. Jade -- Jane Lumley |

Actually, Julianne's post was excellent and right on the money. The latest gene mapping data shows that "more than 300 genes, markers, and chromosomal regions have been associated or linked with human obesity phenotypes" (1). Here is a link to the entire gene mapping abstract: http://tinyurl.com/c4qz The scientific evidence clearly shows that appetite is under tight genetic control. In addition, the ability to burn off what we eat is also controlled by our genes. In other words, you are not superior, just lucky. Here is some additional *food* for thought from Harry Browne: "Government is force, pure and simple. There's no way to sugar-coat that. And because government is force, it will attract the worst elements of society -- people who want to use government to avoid having to earn their living and to avoid having to persuade others to accept their ideas voluntarily. And so libertarians don't want to leave the governing of our morals to society's basest members." --Harry Browne, Why I am a libertarian. http://www.americanlibertyfoundation.org/hb/why.shtml Live Long and Prosper!
