About 1 year ago I started low carbing.

BMI 34.3
weight 239 lbs
Blood Pressure 140/80 on 20mg of Zestril
Size 38 pants were tight, XL Tshirts were starting to show belly.
My last cholesterol was bad and my doctor said if I logged another in
6 months, he would suggest anti statin drugs.

I was also having other sorts of trouble. Sleep was terrible. Acid
reflux would bother me or I would have problems breathing and snoring
myself awake.

I started Atkins because my brother had lost 60 lbs in about 6 months,
but reading some of the other looney alternative medicine things that
Atkins is into turned me off. I think his basic process is great for
limiting calories and determining how to eat for the rest of your
life, but my feeling is his science is shaking and some marketing guys
have "enhanced" some of his claims.

I have not taken an antiacid since starting low carbing, about 3 days
into it, my wife said I had completely stopped snoring, she had to
check me to see if I was breathing. That in general has increased my
energy levels. I go to the gym 3 days a week and try to take long
walks with the family to the park.

As of yesterday

DMI 27.4
Weight 191lbs
BP 120/70 on 10mg of Zestril
Size 36 pants are loose, Size 34 are almost comfortable, Large Tshirts
fit great.
I don't remember the numbers on my cholesterol, but my triglycerides
were down, HDL up, LDL slightly down. The doc suggested getting it
tested again in 2 years.

Here are the pics

http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/rtswdev

The pics were kind of a wake up call on how far I still have to go.
Although they are not at the most flattering angle, the mirror really
does lie.

Goals. I want to get my BP at 120/70 without meds. I also would
like to take a couple more inches off my abdomen and boost my strength
up some more. My calves are pretty lean and starting to show veins
and I am hopping that will not change. I don't want to be a walking
illustration of circulatory system of the lower extremities. I would
be cool to show a 6 pack, but I won't cry if I don't get there. I
don't think the Chicago Bears are going to call, so I just want a body
healthy enough to do things with my kids and stay active as long as
can.

You've made amazing progress, and your goals are realistic and
attainable. It's a real eye-opener to discover that certain foods we
eat are the cause of most of our ills, isn't it? Especially after
being brainwashed that we must include those foods in order to be
healthy and have a balanced diet.

Keep up the great work! Welsome to the group, and thank you for
sharing your success with us!

I start with some weights. I am not trying to do any isolation type
exercises, I just want to improve overall strength. I do 7 different
types exercises (4 upper 3 lower) alternating between upper and lower
body. Usually a bench press or plate press, leg press, leg
extention, leg curl, some sort of arm curl. Then I throw in some sort
of tricep exercise, lat pull downs or delta row. After that I do 30
minutes on the elliptical.

I think you are showing great improvements. Keep the good work up. Don't be too
hard on yourself. You look so much better than the first pic.

Also, lovely daughter, on the beach pic.
