Benefits :)
I just experienced a few new benefits from my weight loss.
1. I actually can get clothes that look good now. I actually bought a sweater that was only XL albeit in men's sizes. Before I was at least a 3XL. So yay me! And it looks good. It has *colour*! And a pattern! Before it was all just basic dark colours. I suffer from the idea that if I just wear all black I'll suddenly look slimmer. 2. I was taking pictures for my home made X-mas cards and I look thinner. In my face I can completely see it. Usually cause I'm around my body 24/7 I have a hard time seeing the loss. Others point it out to me and I'm pleased but still have that low self esteem thing of thinking they just are being polite. 3. Yesterday was my monthly lunch with a friend and we went to a local place that has..gasp..booths. I hate these booths. Try to pretend that my stomach isn't pushing the table into my partner across or hanging out. Well yesterday I could sit in one and there was room. Just a smidgeon but still *room*. Just amazing to me. Exercising: I just got back from a 20 minute walk but this was the first this week.I'm still struggling to make this a daily habit. The weather hasn't helped any. Last week we had the worst storm in 50 years here. 100km/h winds, 5-6 inches of rain in a few hours. Entire town w/o power and we're still boiling water. The storm passed but the rain has still been coming every day. I need to remember that I'm not going to melt, but that's hard when the rain is coming horizontal. {Excuses, excuses, I know]. |

Sure, it's great to see numbers coming down when you step on the scale, but the non-scale benefits are what really makes it all worth while, IMHO. 1. I actually can get clothes that look good now. Now, I am somewhere between XL and a L. And I think that once you get to the point where you are wearing XL, it just keeps getting better and better, quicker. Dropping 5 pounds when you are a 3XL doesn't really show in your clothes that much. Doing so as a XL does. One thing I found fun/helpful to do is to buy clothes that I know are too small for me. Something pretty or cool on sale for cheap. I've got a couple of medium tops and a medium denim jacket hanging in my closet. I try them on once in a while, after I lose a few pounds. It's great to see them get less and less tight. I know it may take a while, but they will eventually fit! 3. Just amazing to me. Booths were a big thing for me as well. And movie theater seats. I could fit into both of these, but I felt like I was wedging myself in. Now I have room to spare. Probably the second most important thing to me about losing weight. I just got back from a 20 minute walk but this was the first this week.I'm still struggling to make this a daily habit. Sounds like a pretty good reason to stay inside. I don't walk in the rain myself, or when it gets below 20F. Heck, I have a hard time talking myself into going out when it is below 30F. If you're still having trouble motivating yourself to go out when the rain isn't hitting you from the side, that could be a problem. -- Annie As of 11-16-06: 258/182.5/140 Standing at 5 foot 4. 75.5 pounds lost. 42.5 left to go. Just the look on the face of someone who hasn't seen me for a long time is one of the benefits I enjoy. Makes me realize it is really happening--not just wishful thinking. 1. Noe going through my closet is like shopping! I even had some motivational clothes that I had purchased to give myself incentive to lose the weight--so I'm wearing them forthe first time--years after I bought them. What fun! 3. Probably the second most important thing to me about losing weight. I agree about booths. My family and I went to a restaurant a couple of years ago, and the hostess was quite snippy. She put us in a booth in the back corner that was so small my bust rested on the table. When the waitress came, I told her I was very uncomfortable in the booth, and she moved us to another table in her area. The hostess flounced over with a glare and demanded to know why. So I told her--graphically. She turned red and stormed away from the table. Oh, well. I'm very glad not to have such problems any more. smile I just got back from a 20 minute walk but this was the first this week.I'm still struggling to make this a daily habit. When the weather is bad, there is always something I can find to do inside. I really hate to go a day without any form of exercise. =c) |
