I just caught part of the interview - Ferguson apparently just wrote a
children's book she's pitching. But, of course, she had to talk about diet
and weight loss. To summarize, she said that the craze used to be to cut
out fat, and people got fat and had health problems. Now the craze is to
cut carbs, which can also only result in more fat people with more health
problems. Huh?

We'll see if she changes her tune when her sponsor (Weight Watchers?) jumps
on the low-carb bandwagon.

btw - I'm in the Netherlands, so I don't know when this aired in the US.

And there you've hit it. She's getting paid by WW and they're desperate to kill
the trend toward low carb. Afterall, they don't make any money if dieters can
buy all their food in the meat and produce sections of the grocery store. And
WW is a little late to the party if they want to add low carb shakes and bars to
their product line.

You make it sound like WW is jumping on the LC bandwagon for sure. Is
this true? I think that would be great - think of all the new LC foods
that will be pumped into the marketplace as a result of this move.
Wow..can't wait.

Nah - I should have said "IF Weight Watchers jumps on the low carb
bandwagon". Sorry - I have no idea if they will or not. You're right -
sure would put a lot of new products on the market!

From what I've seen (I have several relatives on WW), WW is committed to low fat
and damn the carbs. And those low fat products often contain much higher
amounts of sugars than the regular food item because without fat they need
something for taste. It would take a huge philosophical shift for WW to go low
carb.
