Default Check-in & Breakfast Blues

Hi y'all,

I did my weigh-in this weekend. Last week I missed my weigh-in so I did it
the next day and found that I had actually gone up. I knew it was just
bloating though so I didn't worry about it. I'm happy to report that I'm
back down this week, plus an extra pound loss. That brings me to a total of
23lbs lost. Only 2lbs from my mini goal.

My swim buddy and I had planned on hitting the pool Monday and Wednesday
last week. We went on Monday, but on Wednesday my buddy got a call that her
sister was having her baby so she went off to the hospital. I tried to get
hubby to swim with me, but he was too tired. I would have walked there by
myself, but I'm still not sure of which way to go, plus the neighbourhood
isn't the greatest for a woman to be walking alone. Next week I'll only get
one swim in due to the holiday -- grrrr! If the weather holds out though,
I'm going to try to get a walk in during lunch time.

I've been doing well with eating my allotted amount of calories. It's been
nearly three months now and I'm still feeling very comfortable with my WOE.
I'm learning to make healthier choices while out (oddly enough I'm eating
out more these days than I ever used to). I'm tracking everything closely
with FitDay, although it's hard to gage restaurant food -- I try to
overestimate rather than underestimate the amount on my plate. I don't
really have much of a sweet tooth so I haven't had any splurges with all of
the Easter chocolates and treats people have been bringing into work. I
like salty snacks better and I usually try to fit in some Crispy Mini's rice
cakes, Spud Stix or pretzels in the evenings to satisfy that. Before I
would have sat there with the bag/box and eaten and eaten and eaten. It's
amazing how many crackers, chips you can eat without really paying
attention. Now, rather than sit there with the bag I count out my allowed
serving and put it in my special snack bowl. Once the bowl is empty, that's
that. Seems to be working so far.

When I used to "diet" I used to feel hungry all the time. With my new WOE I
feel satisfied, no more hunger. However, I have made one observation:
During the week I usually eat a granola bar for breakfast (around mid
morning)-- I don't like to eat too much in the morning. When I'm at home on
the weekends, I've been eating cereal for breakfast -- Rice Krispies,
Cheerios or a mixed cereal like Harvest Crunch (I never use sugar). The
rest of my meals are typical of what I eat during the week. It's been a few
weeks of doing this and I've noticed that on the weekends where I'm eating
cereal in the morning, I'm hungry soon after and sometimes I feel insatiable
all day. I'm not sure if it's what I'm eating -- or if its because my
schedule is different from the weekdays which kind of throws me out of
whack -- or could it be something else? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Well done on your losses so far!! I haven't eaten breakfast since I was
about 11 but I understand that a meal in the morning kick starts your
metabolism so I decided to eat breakfast for Lent ( I know you are supposed
to give stuff up but I figured I was giving up 10 minutes in bed!). For the
first week or so I thought I might die with hunger but it stopped and I got
used to it. So even now Lent is now over I'm still going to stick with
brekkie - even though it's only a little porridge or a piece of wholemeal
toast.

Well, you did give something up for letn - you gave up not eating
breakfast!

I didn't quite understand what you meant about the hunger - are you
saying that eating breakfast meant you were more hungry by lunch time
than when you didn't eat anything?

I feel at my least hungry when I get up in the morning, but I always
eat a small breakfast - fruit juice, a cereal bar and coffee as I feel
my blood sugar would be too low to get through the morning otherwise.
I always marvel how I can eat a full English breakfast if I ever stay
in a hotel, and then revert to my cereal bar as soon as the break is
over

I'm not sure what's in your granola bars, but I find that a meal stays
with me better if it includes some protein. You might want to try
adding some protein at breakfast. I put protein powder in with my
cereal, but you could have an egg or a piece of cheese or meat or
something. Or look for a higher protein cereal.

Some people feel that eating carbs sets them into a cycle of craving
more carbs. I've not had that experience myself, so can't lend my
insight on this, but you may get some other comments about it.

Yes, absolutely more starved at the beginning of breakfast than before! I
agree about the English breakfast in hotels - most odd - starving by 11.00
max!

Thanks Janice. What I mean is that during the week when I'm eating my
granola bar for breakfast I feel fine, not hungry until lunch. But when I
eat cereal on the weekends I'm feeling hungry very soon after and sometimes
I can't seem to stop the hunger all day.

Thanks Rachael. I never used to eat breakfast either. I too would rather
sleep for 10 more minutes! I usually have no appetite when I first get up.
If I eat too soon, it makes me feel nauseous.

Same here, although I suppose time has something to do with it, both having
more time for b/fast AND having it a little later on hols.

I've never really paid attention to carbs. Just checked and a cup of Rice
Krispies has 22 and my granola bar (low fat cranberry) has 21.

I'll try the protein thing next weekend. An egg or cheese and fruit.

Thanks!

And most of all, in my view, the fact that someone else has cooked it
for you!
