Default So what's core?

My Weight Watchers leader seems not to know anything abuot core. I have
questions.

Weight Watchers lists only five oils as co olive, canola, safflower,
sunflower, and flaxseed. Are there any other oils that are core? Walnut
oil? Sesame oil? Does it make a difference if it's a refined oil or a
cold-pressed oil?

Are olives core if they're the kind not cured in oil?

Is the bean family core only if you're a vegetarian? Can I have tofu?
Garbanzo beans?

It says no deli meat, but what about plain turkey breast? Is that core?

What about high-fat fish such as salmon and high-calorie fruit such as
avocado or banana--are they core?

Thanks
Caren

Take a look at the Getting Started booklet that you get at week 1. I'll
answer your questions below.

Then she needs to get some more training. Find another leader that has
bothered to listen to the core training.

I don't know enough about the types of oil to answer your question. I do
know that these 5 are the only ones that they say are Healthy and therefore
core.

Are olives core if they're the kind not cured in oil?

Olives are core. The book does not make the distinction of packed in oil or
not. I guess since you don't eat the oil just the olive it does not matter.

Is the bean family core only if you're a vegetarian? Can I have tofu?
Garbanzo beans?

Beans are core for anyone. The only beans that are not core are Baked beans,
Pork and beans and regular refried beans. This is because of the added fats
and sugars used to produce the end product. Garbonzo beans and Tofu are both
core.

It says no deli meat, but what about plain turkey breast? Is that core?

The only chicken/turkey breast that is core is the kind that someone has
actually carved from a bird. Deli meat is processed food with additives. If
you cooked it or a deli cooked the bird without injecting it first then that
can be considered core.

What about high-fat fish such as salmon and high-calorie fruit such as
avocado or banana--are they core?

yup, they are both core although I would not over do it. A calorie is still
a calorie under core.

Thanks

no problem.

I know little about it and failed miserably but I do remember my leader
saying when it comes to deli meat, look at it closely, it must look "real"
and not "processed" to qualify as core, best of luck, Lee

you can go to wwers website and get the lists of stuff. It is a tad
confusing. I'm not sure why tomato juice is core but now vegetable
juice. You can have tofu..it's a 0 YOu can have all kinds of beans,
and olives are on there, too. It's very manageable .

hmmm, I'm looking at my printed list and tomato juice is on there, but
not on the online list...not V8 (which I LOVE, the low-sodium version,
anyway.) I think, with juices, it's easy to rack up more calories than
you think you're getting...tomato juice still hovers at around 35 for a
large glass...yeah I do need to check on that. I don't get the thing
about dried fruit, either. It's still an apple, even if it's dried and
you make a point NOT to eat more than that equivalent. I like the
whole-wheat pasta thing. Well, all the whole wheat carbohydrates are
right up my alley since I love cous-cous and brown rice etc.
BTW, are you sick and tired of the terms "carbs" and "carbies?" (For
Arby's marketers, this is code for "more grams of fat per serving than
you would care to contemplate, let alone EAT! Has anybody listened to
the "low-carby wrap" commercial closely?)
well, if you are doing points, tomato juice is .4 for one cup
