I'm not sure in all my years hanging out at ASD that I've seen the
traffic level this low...

What can we do to liven things up around here?

Have Caleb espouse the wonders of his 100 day diet?

Have Mu give whip us into shape?

Get Chung to give us nutrition and spiritual advice?

Or can we all check in and give an update as to where we are in terms of
our goals--whatever our goals may be?

Ok...here's my update.
5'3", 64 year old female who has gained 7 pounds over the winter

I've lost a couple already and I'm sure the remainder will go just as soon
as I can get back on the bike. The weather has turned cold again and there
will be no biking this weekend. Today was the first bike ride of the season
for the park's "Bike for the Health of It" program. It was 24F, with 15mph
winds and snow and ice on the trails. We had a few people show up but
called the ride off due to trail conditions. We determined it would be
safer to walk across the parking lot to the restaurant for breakfast

Yeah, your weather is even worse than ours. I've been looking it up
as I'm coming to Dayton for an audit next week. Don't know if I'll
have time to get together, as we may be working evenings, but will
email you if so and see if you have any free time.

OK. I'll bite.

I'm 54 years old and semi-retired. (Or is it "unemployed"?) It's been
snowing here in southern Ontario for several days. The temperature is
hovering around freezing. For three weeks it's been too muddy to take
the dogs for a walk. I need to go to Sears and get myself an exercise
bike, I think.

I'm 5'4", 153 lbs, and would like to weigh 140. But 153 isn't too bad.
I alternate between reading diet newsgroups and rec.food.cooking. (I
need to read the diet newsgroups or else rec.food.cooking would
prevail, and lord knows what I'd be eating. )

That's it.

Great. Hopefully you've have some free time.

We've already cancelled the ride for tomorrow morning. It's supposed to be
24F with 20 mph winds. Not very good weather for riding. The weather next
week is supposed to get back to normal for this time of year. We're
planning on doing the Monday night ride since they're predicting mid 40's.
That will seem like a heat wave after the 20's we've had the past few days.

Just a suggestion but it would be really good if everyone who's going to
give an update would post a new thread or at least change the subject line
to something like Update on me [was Wow]. Lots of people will read one
or two posts in a thread such as this and just assume the rest of the thread
contains more comments about low traffic and the death of the newsgroup.

Posting a new thread would not only increase the activity but would get
noticed and gather more support for yourself.

OK, let me blow my own trumpet, French horn, and tuba:

Weight:
Starting weight: 385, January 2006
Current weight: 249, April 7, 2007
Total loss 136 pounds
Goal weight: 201, September 30, 2007
Total projected loss 184 pounds

Scoliosis:
Forward head posture before physical therapy: 5.5 inches.
Forward head posture after 60 days of physical therapy: 2.5 inches
Still working on remaining problems: knocked right knee, knocked left
knee with only a partial extension, uneven shoulders, etc. Emphasis
was on teaching me proper exercise form, stretches and exercises to
bring stability to the upper back muscles, and build my core for
bicycling.

Bicycling:
Numbers of miles ridden in November 2006: none - I didn't have a bike,
and didn't know how to ride.
Number of miles ridden in December 2006: 1.5
Number of miles ridden in March 2007: 155
Fastest speed: 14.4 MPH on a flat trail, 26.5 MPH on the downhill.
Number of falls since going clipless two days ago: none, five near-
falls, however.
Number of modifications to the bike to have it fit me: three - raised
handlebars, new saddle, new seatpost.

You're doing great in all areas! It's good to see the physical therapy is
making improvements.

Well,

I haven't been here and now I am, back sorta. Idling mostly.. I'm
struggling with my weight and waiting for myself to pull myself up by
the bootstraps and get back on track. So.. anything inspiring would be
helpful.

Default Update on The Historian (was Wow)

Wow, GREAT progress!

I keep thinking that bike riding would be a good thing, but around
here, the narrow streets, numerous and DEEP potholes and steep hills
kind of discourage me. Anyway, after this week, I'm seeing that even
riding the recumbent bike at my health club is not playing nice with
my recent bout of plantar fasciitis.

I am thinking about reconditioning my old NordicTrack (if I can find
all the crucial bits) and seeing if I could use that without
aggravating the plantar fasciitis I'm having trouble with. It's no
impact... but it is weight bearing, so I don't know.

I think I am also going to look into getting heel inserts.

I like doing weights, but I am starting to miss the cardio. Plus, I'm
not seeing much progress this week with weight loss and I think it is
partly due to some eating lapses, but mostly due to less activity.
