I feel for you! My right leg is 3/4" shorter than the left. I didn't start
getting correction for this until 1988 (well, except for when I had to wear "special shoes" (aka orthopedic oxfords) back when I was 10-11, after which time I REFUSED to wear them because they looked like baby shoes), I cannot imagine having to wear them things. The shoemaker guy, he also does leg braces and deals with children a lot. and my body had adjusted to it long before that. Because of that inner adjustment, I can only tolerate adding 1/4"-3/8" to the right shoe. Thats what the shoemaker guy did for me. Just 3/8ths. He had me walk across these different levels/inches of board, with my left foot. To see which felt the best. He measured my hips. My right hip sits higher up than the left. I knew that already. Its from the car accident. The right side of my body was most affected. I take it to a shoe repair where they add a full-sole buildup by cutting off the bottom of the shoe and gluing the buildup material in between (so the original bottom with treads, etc., is still on the bottom). That is exactly what they did to mine. Same way. Still have the original bottoms, yet you can see along the heel, where the buildup was done. It costs $35 at the repair shop I use. MANY shoe repairs will NOT do this right, only adding to the heel instead of the entire sole of the shoe. I was wondering about that. I thought maybe call the place I got the shoes from, see if I take in a good pair of athletic shoes, if they will do the buildup. I think he charges 45$. Yet I also got the double wide feet. I love this white and pink Nikes. Yet Nike and alot of the name brands don't carry the double wide shoes. I wear a size 7 on both feet. Since my feet are two whole sizes in difference (6 & 8), I have to buy TWO pairs of shoes in order to get ONE wearable pair -- unless I go to Nordstrom, I cannot imagine that. That sounds so costly. Yet if its what ya gotta do, then thats what ya gotta do. Nordstrom lets you get one in each size though? Do you know if they sell double wide shoes? I consider my feet, farmers feet. I got the wide feet like my grandma. where they will sell me one from each size as a single pair. Since injuring both my feet in 1998, getting a decent pair of shoes is even MORE critical (and difficult). As you can imagine, getting new shoes has been a lifelong nightmare for ME -- it's no fun at ALL :-( I am so sorry its been like this all your life. I feel for you Saffire. This was the first time I done something like this with my feet. Better fitting shoes. I just want a improvement with being able to exercise. I think the uneveness has caused the right hip, where it attaches to back.. that joint to wear out. Then the left knee to give out easily, when exercising. First it was taking care of emotional pain, depression. Then it was the Fibromaylgia, doing what I could with that. Then low carb, losing weight. Now, shoes. Whats next I wonder. I think its just a life long thing? Well, the most important part of this journey for me. It was putting Me first and foremost. Not last. -- Saffire 205/149/125 - 5'1.5" Atkins since 6/14/03 Progress photo: http://photos.yahoo.com/saffire333 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Atkins since 1/17/04 CCLL 40 267/185/135 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As you free yourself from the past, your energy becomes available for the present. |

Nordstrom lets you get one in each size though? Do you know if they sell double wide shoes? I consider my feet, farmers feet. I got the wide feet like my grandma. I found a pair of tennis shoes at Sears - New Balance brand that were a EE width. I have always have wide width feet (even as a teenager and not overweight at all then). Original price was 59.99 - on sale I think 45.99 - bought a few weeks ago and not sure of exact price. I put them on and didn't want to take them off - it felt so good to have shoes on that my feet had more than enough room from side to side. I do have a pair of black shoes about a womens 8 1/2 that has a 1/2" insert in the sole on the left shoe. After one of my hip surgeries my insurance paid for the shoes to be modified. After another hip surgery - my legs miracuously are now the same length again. I no longer need the shoes and if anyone here would like to have them (at no charge) - I would be happy to pack them up and ship them to you. They kinda look like a high ankle hiking boot - but it isn't a heavy shoe like a hiker type - it is a regular high top black shoe that could be worn with jeans or other pants. I didn't wear them very much - so they are in pretty good shape. Email me at if anyone is interested. Diane |

double wide shoes? I consider my feet, farmers feet. I got the wide feet like my grandma. Nordstrom is fantastic for sizes. You can check out their website, the sizes go up to 3E. I have the opposite problem...thin feet and skinny heels that slip out of everything. Nordstrom always fixes me up. Even though we're living in Holland now, I still order my shoes from Nordstrom and have them shipped here! And the Nordstrom customer service is outstanding. I can't say enough good things about Nordstrom shoes. S t a c i |
