You need to keep whatever stats make you comfortable with your new eating regimen. It won't help your overall health if you let worry create unnecessary stress. Some people have gotten into stalls at some point because they went into starvation mode. If you use one of the programs that I've heard others mention here it will count cals as well as carbs for you as you keep your food diary. As I use a simple spreadsheet I only keep carb count at this time. I need to investigate other programs more seriously. And for the same reason. The first couple of weeks I had a hard time getting my calorie count over 1000/day. That was because I just wasn't thinking in terms of low carb yet. Now I still count calories, just to make sure my overall intake is reasonable. I'm going by the 8-10 calories per pound of current weight, so I try to get about 1700-2100 calories per day. Calories do still matter for most people to a certain extent, even more if you are close to goal, say within 10 or 20 pounds or so. The good thing about low-carb is that for many people it helps to curb the appetite so that limiting calories is easier. I know it's true for me, I could eat unlimited amounts of rice or pasta and not feel full, I could never do that with meat and cheese. There are certain things I have to watch out for though, especially nuts, because they are easy to overeat. -- -Michelle Levin (Luna) http://www.mindspring.com/~lunachick http://www.mindspring.com/~designbyluna |

It's got all the nutrient information from the USDA SR14 plus lots of brand names and restaurant nutrition data, you can edit/add items so that it shows net carbs, you can build recipes and calculate net carbs for recipes. Tons of features, easy to use. It's $40, but for me it has been well worth it. There's no way those extra carbs/calories can sneak in when I'm putting everything into this program. And you can have multiple users, so it will track your diet and your Mom's. |

I don't count calories, but watch volume, and don't eat any more if I am satisfied. That just pushes and asks for me to have cravings. |

I guess it's all relative to how bad you need software to help you. It does seem that the $70 is a lot less than what comparable programs cost. I hope you are able to find one that meets your needs. |

I'll find something... The corporate programs should have features added for keeping track of hundreds or thousands of clients. Keeping track of membership numbers, addresses, etc. It would be worth the extra money if you were doing it for a clientele. -- Stephen S. 331/300/220 - as of 26 Nov. 03 LC since 28 Sept. 03 http://dragonfen.com/diet -------------------------------- |
