OT for CARMEN and other science heads
Carmen,
You may remember that I'm on the look out for a good physiology site that we can offer NG members who are interested in going deeper into the science for who the body's energy systems work. While I haven't found a site that covers the bases well and can be understood by a non-biology major, I have come across something worthwhile. I found a site that offers 'maps' of different metabolic pathways. The one I though the most interesting to all of us was the Lipid Metabolism. Still a too much for most, but a start at understanding the different systems involved. Check it out at: http://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/IUBMB-Nicholson/ http://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/IUBMB...ids-feb22a.pdf -- Rudy - Remove the Z from my address to respond. Check it out at: http://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/IUBMB-Nicholson/ http://www.tcd.ie/Biochemistry/IUBMB...ids-feb22a.pdf Those are good, and I'd add this one: http://elmhurst.edu/~chm/vchembook/5900verviewmet.html It has fairly simple diagrams, and the explanations manage to walk the line between oversimplifying the processes involved and getting all bogged down in the weeds. This one too: http://www.mun.ca/biochem/courses/1430/lipmethints.html It's a clarification source for lipid metabolism. I should be doing stuff like getting ready to go do some radio stuff, so I'll sign off for now. Take care, Carmen |
